Oil Pastel Sunflower in Vase
Hello, how are you? My love for oil pastels is coming back since I started posting on my TikTok again, which I abandoned many months ago, hehe. What I love about oil pastels is that you can do whatever you want with them. Although it's a bit messy to work with, I think it's worth trying. I was in search of other oil pastel brands I see on tiktok on other artist use and I kind of want to try it, and I ordered some of it and I never knew that pentel have 50 colors so I need to have it so it is still on its way and I can't wait for it so I ordered another one its from crayola I like to try on budget friendly options first before I go to more professional one and I kind of excited it is going to get delivered today so wish me luck!
Materials I Used:
Materials I Used:
- Oil Pastel
- Paper
- Scraper
- Reference
Let's Draw!
I prepare my sketchbook and place it at an angle I am comfortable with, and then start to sketch the reference in shape because doing this makes me know where I am drawing, and I use this gray oil pastel to sketch the reference.
I outlined each part of the sunflower using its respective colors.
Same as the one I drew the outline of the stem, leaves, etc of the flower using this grayish green. I love using this as my base color or outline for my drawings.
And I am not forgetting the vase, of course, and I am starting to fill up the pollen. What I do is I lightly layer it first.
Next, I use these darker shades of green to fill in the part where the shadows are. I do it lightly, like I did earlier.
For this part of the process, I start completely filling up the flowers part and just trust the process, keep layering, and sometimes I have limited color, so if I have a color that is similar to the reference, I use it.
Now the drawing is getting there, I started to fill up the background with gray color so that I can see it more tonally, and I started adding darker colors to the flowers to make it more contrast to look at.
Just keep layering different shades of the color of the flower. I like to finish it with white oil pastel just to blend the colors smoothly. You know when the drawing is getting there when your hand looks like this LOL.
This is what it should look like. I like how it turned out, so I guess this is it.
To finish it up, I added texture and highlights to the drawing using any tool I have to scrape the oil pastel off.
Finish it up with a blurry signature, LOL.
Done! Sunflower in a vase!
Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
