Using A Plain Tee To Create Art

P_20221221_145122.jpg

Hello there! I was busy for months before the end of the year last year, with family gatherings everywhere, which is good. The best part about attending gatherings is listening to other people's gossip. LOL. So this blog is still on my draft page. So here I am, attempting to finish it, and I have already worn this t-shirt. And the next paragraph is about what I observed about the shirt and what I did wrong.

First, I should have bought a textile medium to convert my acrylic paint to fabric paint which was my biggest regret. Now that I've washed it once, the paint kind of faded, and it doesn't look vibrant at all like it did the first time I wore it.

So, the next few paragraphs are from the day I wrote this blog last year.

I came home from a family gathering. I saw a plain white shirt in my parent's closet at first, and I was going to paint it without asking for permission, but I remember that before that I got scolded by my mom for painting my brother's plain white shirt.

So I asked them if they needed them, and yes, my dad needed them, so I searched for another, and they approved that I could use it. I was planning to paint in the morning, but I got excited, so I started that night. Hehe

I observed that my eyes got blurry a little bit, and all the lights in my room turned on because my eyes kind of felt blurry, and that will never stop me from starting my painting.

It's been a while since I painted with acrylic, so I feel like I'm starting to learn to paint. I fell in love with sunflowers, so I chose them as my subject. I kind of go with the flow with the design of it.

Materials:

A plain white tee from my parent's closet, a little big but fine.

pencil, brushes, paints, paper towels, or any fabric that you don't use anymore, and a lot of water.

I used the back peel of the lamination film. I don't know what it is called, but I like recycling, so yeah.

I used a cutting mat because I had illustration paper I bought but I already used it. or any protection to the shirt so the paint will not absorb the back of the shirt.

A hot air gun. Big help for me the paint will dry faster because I always paint at night.

The Process

The sketch is not visible, but you will see my vision later.

I started with the petal. I was aiming for a watercolor effect in my painting, but now I know what I did wrong.

P_20221218_203711.jpg

I was first hesitant. If this is the result I was going for, it's because it took me a week to complete the process because at first, the shirt was just absorbing the paint.

At this point, I was planning to simply outline all of the petals of the sunflower with paint and then finish it tomorrow, which is now midnight. when I realized we had another family gathering coming up.

The next day, I continue with the stems and leaves. I only had a few hours to continue it. big help for the hot air gun.

A close-up of my progress is pretty good but I am suffering. Hehehe

P_20221219_104243.jpg

As you can see, the painting is not that vibrant, so I am going to retouch layers of paint again, but I am on my way to finishing it.

And the painting is becoming more vibrant, with about 80% completion.

I added a darker outline so the painting color would pop out.

This is the finished outcome of the painting. I couldn't stop looking at it before. I always wear it and look in the mirror looking for anything to retouch, but it feels satisfying so far. As I said before, I should use textile paint so the paint will not fade when I wash it. But it was too late. I am too excited to paint it.

When I wore it, it looked like this. the experience of wearing it. It is so eye-catching that even my mom likes it. The funny thing is that seconds after I wore this shirt, the paint got stained with toothpaste, and the stain stayed there until we got home. LOL.

Thank you for stopping here at my blog.

I love sunflowers, and the shirt is pretty. And great that you documented the process of making it.
But too bad the colors washed a bit after washing it.
