Splinterlands Art Contest | Khmer Princess

It's that time of the week again where I get to share a new painting for the splinterlands art contest. I was supposed to submit this yesterday but real life stuff took too much of my time. The goal is to beat the deadline and I'm glad I could make it. Happy weekend lovely hive community, I hope you have a wonderful one.

I chose to recreate a rare magical card for this week I think I've painted this one before. The khmer princess is the ruler of the khmer people who resides in the burning lands, their magic is powered by fire which makes sense. She and her seven sisters survived the war and she's the strongest and fiercest warrior with absolutely nothing to prove.

PROCESS

I was excited for this one because working with warm tones can be interesting, I love the glow they produce. I started with a quick sketch to serve as a guide as I work, I then began to paint flat colours for her skin, hair and clothes. I chose a darker skin tone because warm colours look amazing on it. The original character has a lot going on but since I decided to paint a more minimal upclose portrait, I picked out some cool things I love there and added them to my work. I painted her dress and facial features, also chose a darker blue colour for her lips, I barely use that colour for lips but I love it.

I started rendering her skin, this process was interesting and I focused more on her neck and shoulder area. I love painting jewellery but I noticed I don't paint earrings a lot, hehe but I did that here and it's so cool. I added details to the jewelleries as I painted to save time. I began to add more details to her hair, I used multiple shades of orange and yellow till it looked good, then I moved to her dress, I mimicked the folds on the skirt of original character and painted the big button too.

I painted a simple background and added little fire balls glowing around her. I added more strands on her lashes, added a new layer and painted some glow in just a few areas.

Khmer Princess looks like someone I wouldn't want to make mad - her expression has an attitude!😅

Good luck in the Splinterlands contest!
