5 Minute Freewrite: Bones and Ashes

The elders of a tribe in a faraway land discovered that a paste created from the bone and ashes of the dead brings about supernatural powers.

So, they did ceremonies and rubbed the paste to their bodies and to their surprise they had strange dreams and they interpreted those dreams as their dead sending messages to them to keep them and their harvest and livestock safe from evil eye and other supernatural disasters.

The years passed by and that tribe prospered, never had any problems until a group of the tribe's members declared their disagreements of how the elders treated the bone and ashes of the dead. They disagreed with the sacrifice of innocent people to make the paste.

After a while the dead stopped visiting the elders in their dreams. it was because they did not want people to be sacrificed anymore since the elders sacrificed those whom they considered unworthy of being a part of their community.

The elders became angry and frustrated. They didn't want that bless to just go away, so they hanged those who disagreed and other tribe members just watched.

Of course, this is only the beginning of a long fight with the elders, but for now they continued their way.
