An anecdotal experience at Hive.

There is nothing in the world more powerful than an idea whose time has come.

-Victor Hugo-

Greetings to the great crypto-financial tribe of the hive. What I am going to narrate below could be a hybrid between anecdote and denunciation, since what happened has both characteristics. I hope it will not only be entertaining but also thought-provoking to read.

In recent days, I started to make the steps to exchange Hbd and to buy Hive. For which I chose to make use of one or several exchanges. Although it sounds strange, I had no experience in the process of subscribing to them, and of course, once inside, even less to the fact of having to perform the operations required for that purpose.

Although it sounds incredible at this time, my lack of experience generated a certain uneasiness or anxiety in me, since there was always the possibility that due to some kind of mishap, something would happen that would put my money at risk or worse, that I would lose it irremediably, something that nobody likes, especially those who, like me, do not have that precious resource to spare.

Well, I tell you that Murphy's law manifested itself and everything that could go wrong, went wrong. The first thing that happened was that my identity card was a little blurry, so the exchanges do not validate the document when it is in that condition. As a consequence, and in spite of the fact that my ID was valid, I had to go to renew the document, which in my country is not at all pleasant.

In spite of everything, in a fortunate and expeditious way, I managed to obtain my new identity document, and I said that I was finally on the right track. Well, it was not like that, when I started the subscription process, one of the exchanges, which I am not going to specify in order not to fall into finger-pointing, asked me for some data, which despite being very simple, were essential for the validation process and I did not know that I had to put them in a mandatory way, these data were the addresses of my social networks.

For the simple fact that I didn't have a good cell phone until relatively recently -and thanks in part to Hive- my only social network was Facebook. As you can guess, I had no experience in posting such data as: addresses, links and things that for others are so common and ordinary. That's why I had to seek advice from more experienced friends, which was also a waste of time.

Finally, I managed to solve those technical problems and I said now if the way is clear for investment. How wrong I was! I also had little experience paying through mobile payment, and although the processes on most platforms are very intuitive, there were moments when transfers to buy the native currency were interrupted by reaching the time limit or because I hesitated and had to restart the process.

As I said before, all the arrangements were complicated, but something happened that put more pressure on the matter and was the icing on the cake. I received a notice to renew a lease in Dlease, and I did not have the necessary Hive with which to make the corresponding payment. So I decided to change some HBD to Hive within the platform, as I had been told that it could be done without any problems. After several unsuccessful attempts, I entered an exchange, which I am not going to mention for obvious reasons.

I will make it clear that I am being as objective as possible in describing the events that happened to me. That is, I have not invented anything that is written in this post and I am not doing it with a retaliatory intention, to blame or criminalize anyone. Although I do not deny that I would like the writing to serve in some way to review the problem in question.

Well, the first thing I have to emphasize is that this platform had the change from HBD to Hive much cheaper than the other exchanges, for example: for fifteen HBD they gave me a little less than 27 Hive. The associated exchanges gave me more than 28 approximately. But well, that's just a matter of the crypto market being very volatile and things like that.

But that was not the worst thing that happened to me. When requesting the conversion and entering the information, I put my wallet address by mistake, and I had to put only my user (@leninbracho50), and the platform for some reason validated that address, even though it was wrong. And guess what happened: the Hive never arrived to my wallet and I never recovered the HBD either. I realize my mistake, because of the clarification of another exchange as you will see below. Understand that this kind of things, leave a bitter taste, that must be palliated in some way and mine was to write this post.

When I saw that time went by and the requested cryptos did not arrive, since I only received a memo informing the delivery of the HBD. The first thing I did was to subscribe to the exchange to request information about what happened. I sent my first chat and I received the answer from the support the next day, where they just wrote the same information that appears in the minutes issued by the exchange and that of course, I had already read. They also said that they could not do anything, since the error was in the information of the destination wallet that had been placed.

I wrote to them again, stating that I was not satisfied with the answer, since they did have the technological tools to investigate. At least, I wanted to know where the error was, since the platform had validated that information, when it should have bounced it, because it was an incorrect address for the Hives to reach me. I also told them that it was the least I expected from such a prestigious exchange.

This time their response was quicker, and in it, they alleged reasons that they themselves qualify as: "unlikely, but possible events". Below is their response copied and pasted, just as they wrote it, so that no bias or tendentious postures may be thought of:

Hi

we investigated the problem and this is what happened:

1. You entered an incorrectly formatted Hive target address that started with wallet.hive.blog followed by a slash and a few more characters.

2. The standard Hive cli wallet accepted it as a legal name, because it removes invalid characters at the end of an address it removes invalid characters at the end of an address, so it processes the transaction as "wallet.hive.blog" and it processes the transaction as "wallet.hive.blog" and apparently there is a fraudulent account called wallet.hive.blog that was created 18 days ago.

So, the problem was not caused by our service, it's because there is an bug in the cli wallet and because someone created an account name recently to account name recently to take advantage of this bug apparently. It is really a unlikely set of events, but the improbability of an event doesn't make it impossible. impossible.

I cannot help you with your loss, as the error was not caused by our service, but we have filed a report to repair the wallet, and we have also blacklisted this account against anyone else who uses our service to send to this phishing account in the meantime.

Best regards,

Dan Notestein.

I really have to admit that what encouraged me to make this post -despite the fact that it may be written on ice- was simply that I also made this mistake in the other two exchanges, and they did reject the operations. So an obvious question arises: Why do the other two platforms have pro-customer measures, and on the contrary, this exchange has not implemented security systems that prevent these unfortunate events from happening?

Sometimes the highest executives of companies do not notice certain details that go unnoticed, even though they are very small. I hope they really make corrective actions. In my case everything remained like this, I did not get the expected answer, and definitely, I gave for lost the HBD that I wanted to change. It is true that fifteen HBDs do not impoverish or enrich anyone. But it is not only about the material, but about justice, in which many of us still believe in this world. A virtual hug.

See you soon.
