A couple of days ago, “The Arena Vanguard” was released—specifically on July 21—bringing with it a new set of cards that look really interesting, with designs that really catch my eye and aren’t entirely typical of “Splinterlands.” I mean, it’s not something we’re really used to seeing, But even so, they look great, and today I’ll give a very basic overview of at least two of them. In another post, I plan to analyze two more until I’ve covered the entire set—including their abilities, stats, and impact on the game—to determine their value and utility on the battlefield, which is something we always do.

However, in this post I’ll mention the first two; we’ll briefly look at what each one offers—something very basic—and I’ll also explain how you can get them today, July 23, 2026, just two days after their official release. I’ll cover some other details, and most importantly, I’ll share my opinion on these new cards: what they can bring to the table, why they’re disruptive, and I’ll discuss availability and a number of other details—all in this post. As I said, in this post I won’t explain the cards’ usefulness in battle, because they deserve a post all to themselves. And this won’t be a “Part 2,” since there might be a few more posts—after all, there are 8 cards—so I might split them up into sets of two.

So, if you want to learn as much as possible about “The Arena Vanguard,” stick around until the end of this post—you might find out if you haven’t already, and you’ll also get to see my take on this type of release, along with its pros and cons.

Born from “The Arena Vanguard” Community

This release isn’t like the ones we’ve seen in the game for a long time—it’s very different. As the Splinterlands team says in their announcement, this small set of cards is community-driven, with designs purely inspired by Splinterlands content creators and streamers who, week after week, share what Splinterlands is all about with the world on their social media. There are 8 cards in total—7 of them are units, and there’s one “Archon”—so if you want to know more, keep reading.

I say this because I’m going to provide a brief summary of each of the 8 cards shown here, so this is a semi-detailed analysis—because, as I mentioned in the introduction, I plan to write posts that focus more specifically on each one:

These are the cards from “The Arena Vanguard”

  • Jolius Blast: This is an impressive card belonging to the Fire Splinter, and in fact, looking at its design, it truly lives up to its element, as it exudes strength while its fiery power is evident in its sword. This card was inspired by the creator known as “IBlast.” To me, it’s clearly a tank, and its abilities are (Void, Enrage, and Retaliate).

Of course, we can see its attack power and defense stats, so it’s clearly a card meant to be on the front lines. However, it’s a somewhat expensive card, so you need to carefully consider the scenarios where it would be worth playing—or, conversely, where it could still be very dangerous despite its abilities.

image.png

  • Ratbound Corsair: This card has an incredible design; it belongs to the “Water Splinter” faction and is inspired by the creator known as “Mickvir.” Of course, if we look at the image above, it clearly honors the element it belongs to, since it’s a sort of hybrid pirate and looks incredible. The design team keeps outdoing itself, although this work doesn’t seem to have been created entirely by the team, as the illustration is somewhat different—but that doesn’t mean it looks bad; on the contrary, it looks more realistic.

On the other hand, taking a broad look at its stats, we can see that they’re quite interesting and geared toward making it a key offensive card, since it has core abilities that lean exclusively toward the offensive side—such as “Close Range” and “Blast”—which, when used together, can be quite formidable if you know how and when to use them.

My Opinion + How to Get These Cards

As far as I’m concerned, these initiatives by the team are pretty good—they’re quite creative, and the cards always bring something great to the game, constantly changing the META. On the other hand, and specifically with this release of “The Arena Vanguard,” involving the community is a unique paradigm shift, since it’s not about selling packs, but rather a SET that’s distributed by the community itself.

However, there are a few things I didn't like, and I'll list them below:

image.png

How can you get those cards?

This is very simple, since these cards are distributed through specific channels. This means there are no package sales or anything like that, so getting them may be easier than you think. Here's what you need to do:

  • Giveaways by Streamers and Creators: Since this isn't a sale, content creators eligible to distribute these cards have packs that they will give away to the community in whatever way works best for them—giveaways, contests, etc. These packs include 10 copies of each of the 7 cards, all of which are rare.

  • The Spark Store: This store will have at least 250 copies of each card, each priced at 30,000 Sparks.

  • Wheel of Fortune: The Dragon cards (Vaelok and Aurendrak) will be available here, with a 3% chance of appearing.

  • Special Events: These will typically include raffles, promotions, and tournaments where the rewards will be these cards.

Final Thoughts

This concludes the first post about these new cards, in which I focused primarily on explaining how “The Arena Vanguard” works and how to earn these cards. However, as I mentioned, stay tuned for future posts where I’ll explain how these cards actually perform on the battlefield so you can assess their value, identify the most likely winning scenarios, and learn all the details.

See you on the "Battlefield"
