Threads Are a Gateway Drug to the Hive Ecosystem

Building Threads has been a fascinating project. Much of the work in past months was on designing a great backend that was both scalable and easy to plug into a new UI - should we or anyone else want to incorporate Threads into a UI in the future.

Well, turns out that we decided to go the route of rebuilding LeoFinance from scratch. We're building a UI that is so much cleaner. Along with that, we're building a Threads-Centric UI.

What does Threads-Centric mean?

Simply put, it means that Threads are front and center when you land on the new UI. In fact, the entire UI looks a lot like Twitter itself. In many ways, it looks like a copy/paste of Twitter.

Though when you dig under the hood, you'll quickly find that the new UI is not just Twitter on the Hive blockchain... it's our everything app.

It encompasses short-form content as the forefront, but then you can dive deeper and find long-form articles.

We beleive that authors will start to:

  1. Post their normal Hive long-form blogs
  2. Turn those blogs into Threads and share them (just like they do on twitter) to get more exposure and upvotes

We're already seeing this on LeoFinance.io. The difference is that the UI is backwards: long-form is center stage and short-form is found when you dig.

We believe that short-form is a gateway drug to long-form content and the Hive blockchain ecosystem itself!

Leave a comment below: do you think this strategy is a good one in terms of onboarding new Hive users? Do you think we'll be able to sell people on Short-Form Microblogging when they first arrive and then get them to dig deeper as they familiarize themselves with the new UI?

True, this is a good plan, it will sure make people more familiar with threads, thus bringing in new users, the reasons is because, simple things attract more, then while getting along, more would be discover.

This will definitely work .

The attention span of readers is very less ( :( ) lol so having a short-form centric UI is not only beneficial but a necessity if we want to increase the user time spent on the platform .

I think we can have a "threads" icon alongside Twitter and Reddit icons where a user can just click to thread his post into the blockchain.

Yes, I think it's a great strategy. Threads is like entrance to the leofinance rabbit hole. We have short attention spans so consuming bite sized information will be a lot easier and efficient (in terms of covering a broad range of topics). Anything that piques our interest will receive a deep dive in the form of blog posts or any other relevant information.

We (humans) like easy things. If I see short threads I could easily engage on, why would I dig deeper to find a longer a posts?

@leofinance Don't you think this is innovation will make people to be less interested in longer posts?

Aside from Fediverse and few right wing microblogging alternatives, the niche is without any significant competition. To make matters better, cryptosphere is very much interested in Twitter/Reddit style social media.

I'm on board with the new strategy. HIVE can only gain from this. LEO has very little to loose even if the new direction doesn't prove fruitful. We can revert back to old ways easily. There is a clear asymmetric risk:reward at play. It will be stupid for us to not try the new Threads centric UI/UX.

Threads is a great microblogging portal, we just need to individualize it better and make it easier to reach new users. Rather than having an overcomplicated platform, better to make it more modular and allow one to use just Threads if that's what he or she wants.

This is a very interesting marketing strategy and a big mental frame work change:

We believe that short-form is a gateway drug to long-form content and the Hive blockchain ecosystem itself!

I can understand this approach, and I will wrap my mind around it.

I can't wait to see the new UI.
I think this is the start of something big, this Twitter appearance, edits, pictures, links, outting it front and center, plus making it the everything App. It could go beyiond just tippiong, people could buy HBD to send money to friends when they eat out, and I could develop a version of the #nolosslottery which works like venmo...
