A Work in Progress - Hands

My own personal race is on to finish this painting before the week is out. I've been taking my sweet time with this up until today when I banished distractions to focus on finishing this painting. Progress was painfully slow, and the thought of it dragging on longer was enough motivation for me to clear the computer screen of everything except the reference image. What a difference that made.

I guess it is true, that the procrastination monkey is a Dopamine junkie. All of the excuses to find the right podcast to play in the background were nothing but procrastination, a search for a hit of Dopamine. I was reaching a point where the white noise of my focus was reaching a crescendo.

I've experienced this before. The only effective solution to quiet my mind and find inner calm and focus is stillness and quiet. Even most music is distracting. In this space of calm and quiet I am my most productive.

So now I am in tune with my productivity again, I will make good progress with this painting and the backlog caused by the white noise of distraction.

Procrastination during this lockdown is awful. I can barely think and explore ideas for my video work at the moment.

I know the feeling well!
Maybe sitting in silence as you say is just what I need to see clearly.
(I’ll have to get away from the kids first..)

Your image looks stunning so far.
How much of the reference image is reflected in the image I see here?
Is it a direct copy or an interpretation?

You might have to wait for the kids to leave home. =)

In silence I can find serenity and the flow I need.

I am working from a photo.

I could quite happily sit and work on art for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours with occasional breaks so my neck and shoulders and hands don't die slow painful horrible deaths, it's literally just housework that I procrastinate on because I see it as a waste of precious art time XD

Yay for killing all the distractions so you could ocncentrate :) This isn't done yet? It looks pretty awesome already.

Housework! That one I tend to ignore when I am painting.

No, not done yet, but on the homeward stretch with much refinement to come.
