Marigold (Calendula)

avatar

Hello, everyone!

To distract myself from what was going on around me in the spring, I planted marigold seeds in a flower vase. I wasn't sure if the seeds would germinate. I was lucky! I rejoiced at the sprouting of the flower and watched it grow. The flower bloomed!

Calendula is one of the most famous and widespread plants. They have been prominent in the gardens of the Mediterranean since the days of ancient Rome. Or maybe even from an earlier period. I don't know exactly.

Sources tell us that the ancient Romans observed this plant. They noticed how unusually this plant behaved at different times of the day. By the way its flowers behaved, they could check their watches.

"Little calendar," "little clock," or perhaps "little weather glass."

An apt comparison, isn't it?

Calendula is an annual plant. I've grown this flower myself. The yellow-orange flowers stand out against the green grass. Calendula has unique medicinal properties, it is also used in cooking.

Calendula petals are edible and can be used fresh in salads or dried and used to color cheese or as a substitute for saffron (known as "poor man's saffron").

Beautiful flowers, delightful in their harmony, bright colors and variety of forms.

Hope you are all doing well
