Contest #306: "La buena alimentación y el ejercicio físico: claves para más años de vida/Good nutrition and physical exercise: advices to more years of life" (ESP/ENG)
(ESP)

Good morning, ladies of @ladiesofhive. This is the first time I'm taking part in one of this community's contests, and I'd like to say that I'm very happy to do so, since it's a space where we women have the power to express our thoughts, goals, opportunities, and mistakes. I also think the weekly contest is a brilliant idea, because sometimes it brings to the table situations that happen in our lives and that we don't analyze in the moment; here, reading our own experiences and those of others, we nourish ourselves, we learn, and we gradually become better human beings.
Moving on to the topic of the weekly contest, I find these two questions interesting, perhaps so distant, yet at the same time complementary.
My perception of the topic is that physical exercise and good nutrition are the key factors in achieving a long and quality life. Therefore, I believe these two factors should be a constant in every person's life, although age is not a limitation for developing either of them; always, at each stage of life, the way they are handled should be different.

In the case of physical exercise, I've heard that at early ages it should be moderate because the body is still developing; in adulthood it can reach its maximum splendor, and in old age it would depend on the exercise practice—or lack thereof—to which your body has been subjected, and on the limitations one may have. Although, as in almost everything in life, nothing is black and white; there is a point of balance where each person knows their body and recognizes how far they can go. Personally, I'm not exercising at the moment, but this contest has rekindled my desire to start again.
And after a good workout, what could be better than a typical Cuban dish that also nourishes? In Cuba, arroz moro y cristiano is very typical, and it's one of my favorite meals and also healthy because of its nutritional value. It's a very easy recipe: the beans are pressure-cooked for 30 minutes; a sofrito is made with garlic, bell pepper, and tomato. The rice is put in a pot and the beans are added along with the water they were boiled in, as well as the sofrito. It's left to cook over low heat until dry.

Nothing more delicious than enjoying a tasty congrí after a good workout, with the satisfaction that that day you added more years to your life.
