Blade runner (1982): The awareness of the android

avatar

From the movie Blade Runner, we know everything, at least those of us who are science fiction fans, and so today I would like to delve into just one character from the film: Rachael!

In a rainy, surreal, and gloomy Los Angeles where technology has advanced at the expense of human beings, forced to kill androids for fear that they develop far superior human capabilities, one of the slogans of the Tyrell Corporation is: “More human than human.” And she, Rachael, is the most beautiful and advanced android created by the Tyrell Corporation, equipped with implanted memories that make her believe she is human. This makes her unique among the replicants, as she is not aware of her true nature and lives with the conviction of being a real person. She is a figure of extraordinary beauty: her gait is fluid yet measured and confident; her hair is black, her eyes green, and her skin is white, a pallor that accentuates her ethereal appearance.

She is dressed in a style that recalls the classic glamour of the '40s, with clothes that enhance her slender figure and make her even more charming. Her persona conveys a mix of mystery and allure, and that slight intended vulnerability that makes her appear fragile but incredibly attractive… Rachael immediately strikes Deckard with her enigmatic beauty and her apparent humanity. Despite being a replicant, Rachel possesses human qualities and an infinite sweetness that confuses and fascinates him. But over the course of the film, she begins to realize what she is… they are not her memories…it’s not her life, she is a construction!!!

For me, the most beautiful scene is when she admits to being the object…

watch the scene
Her phrase, “I’m not in the business, I am the business,” is a statement of self-awareness that goes beyond mere programming and demonstrates the evolution of the Android species.

The whole film is centered on the theme of existence: The replicants, despite being artificial, show emotions and desires, challenging the distinction between man and machine. Their search for meaning, freedom, and immortality makes them verisimilarly human; Great film Blade Runner…always very current…a cult movie
