Mi reseña a la miniserie Más allá del Jardín | My review to the miniseries Over the garden wall.

Hola amigos. Los que me conocen sabrán que soy fanática a las series animadas y por eso quiero compartirles mis apreciaciones acerca algunas de mis series animadas favoritas. Esta que traigo hoy no es la #1 pero esta en el top, pues es una mezcla de alguna mis cosas favoritas, un guión curioso, tematica envolvedora y un ambiente intrigante. Hoy voy a hablar de Más Allá del Jardín.

Hello friends. Those of you who know me know that I'm a fan of animated series and that's why I want to share with you my opinions about some of my favorite animated series. This one that I bring today is not #1 but it is in the top, because it is a mix of some of my favorite things, a curious script, involving theme and an intriguing atmosphere. Today I'm going to talk about Beyond the Garden.

Más allá de Jardín es una miniserie animada de Cartoon Network creada por Patrick Mchale, que ya había trabajado como guionista y director de arte en series como Hora de Aventura y Las Maravillosas Desventuras de Flapjack (de las cuales me gustaría hablar en otro momento). La serie consta tan solo de 10 episodios con unos 11 minutos aproximadamente cada uno, la serie entera se puede ver en el mismo tiempo que cualquier película. No podemos dejarnos engañar por su corta duración o su estética infantil pues la historia se va poniendo cada vez más interesante a medida que avanzas.

Beyond the Garden is a Cartoon Network animated miniseries created by Patrick Mchale, who had already worked as a scriptwriter and art director on series like Adventure Time and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack (which I'd like to talk about another time). The series consists of only 10 episodes of approximately 11 minutes each, entire series can be watched in the same amount of time as any movie. We can't be fooled by its short length or its childish aesthetics as the story gets more and more interesting as you go along.

Wirt y Greg son dos medios hermanos que se pierden en un bosque y buscan la forma de volver a casa. Ellos junto a un ave parlante se introducirán en un viaje lleno de aventuras y conocerán varios personajes que les ayudarán en su regreso. Nuestros simpáticos protagonistas se verán en la situación de no saber en quien confiar a demás enfrentarse a criaturas que te hacen desconfiar en tus instintos, pues la apariencia es algo por lo que no te debes fijar, de esa manera nos enseña la importante lección de no juzgar al libro por su portada. Yo categorizo esta serie entre los géneros de fantasía, aventura y misterio.

Wirt and Greg are two half-brothers who get lost in a forest and are looking for a way to get home. They along with a talking bird will be introduced to a journey full of adventures and meet several characters that will help them in their return. Our sympathetic protagonists will find themselves in the situation of not knowing who to trust as well as facing creatures that make you distrust your instincts, because appearance is something you should not look at, thus teaching us the important lesson of not judging the book by its cover. I categorize it between the fantasy, adventure and mystery genres.

La animación es sencilla, pero artísticamente tiene diseños muy originales y escenarios muy creativos. La serie juega con esa dicotimia una estética amigable pero una historia oscura, con una banda sonora que nos dará un ambiente intrigante. La paleta de colores y los fondos no se quedan atrás pues para ser una serie infantil cuenta con tonos opacos y con poco brillo, por supuesto que forma parte de la ambientación que logra muy bien transmitir la sensación inquietante de pérdida y melancolía.

The animation is simple, but artistically it has very original designs and very creative scenarios. The series plays with that dicotimia a friendly aesthetic but a dark story, with a soundtrack that will give us an intriguing atmosphere. The color palette and backgrounds are not left behind because for a children's series has opaque tones and little brightness, of course that is part of the atmosphere that manages very well to convey the disturbing sense of loss and melancholy.

La serie toca temas como la importancia de la familia, el arrepentimiento, entre otros. Confieso que hoy en día quedé con algunas dudas, ya que no te dan toda la información masticada, vas entendiendo la historia a medida que avanza, pienso que es parte de la experiencia y me gusta mucho que así sea. Todas las problematicas llegan a su resolución pero el final queda a interpretación del espectador, lo cual hace que sea diferente a lo que estamos acostumbrados.

The series touches on themes such as the importance of family, regret, among others. I confess that today I was left with some doubts, since they do not give you all the information chewed, you understand the story as it progresses, I think it is part of the experience and I like it very much. All the problems reach their resolution but the end is left to the interpretation of the viewer, which makes it different from what we are used to.

No quiero hacer mucho hincapié en la trama para que puedan disfrutarla bien ya que como dije es muy corta pero cada minuto vale la pena. I don't want to emphasize too much on the plot so you can enjoy it well because as I said it is very short but every minute is worth it.
