DCROPS: TIPS and Buying Strategy for Begginers - Spring Season

In the last month I have received requests for information and advice on the game of Dcrops and for this reason I decided to write this post to help those who do not know the game of Dcrops and those who have just started playing to make the right choices and I refer especially to the choices related to purchases to be made.

Dcrops in fact is not a free game and requires an initial investment.

In this post I will discuss the following topics:

  • Brief introduction to the game of Dcrops

  • SHARES points and CROP tokens

  • Advice and buying strategy for new players (spring season)

    • Buying packs of cards or making targeted market purchases?
    • The purchase of Land cards
    • Buying SEED cards
    • The SHARES Points/HIVE Ratio
    • 4 different cases of purchase
  • Conclusion

Brief introduction to the game of Dcrops

Dcrops is a game created and developed on the Hive blockchain.
Dcrops is a farming game that is simple to play and takes very little time to play.

image.png
Screenshot from the site: https://www.dcrops.com/

The Dcrops player plays the role of a agricultural entrepreneur.

In real life an agricultural entrepreneur

  • buys one or more lands
  • buys seeds suitable for the current season
  • plants the seeds in his land
  • waits for the planted seeds to become plants and produce their fruits
  • harvests the crop
  • sells the agricultural products obtained from the harvest in exchange for FIAT currency.

In the Dcrops game, the player

  • buys one or more lands: LAND cards
    image.png

  • buy seeds suitable for the current season: SEED cards
    image.png

  • plant seeds in your land: from the PLAY section of Dcrops
    image.png

  • wait for the planted seeds to become plants and produce agricultural products
    harvest12.jpg

  • harvest
    FirstCropWinter.jpg

  • sells the agricultural products obtained from the harvest in exchange for FIAT coin SHARES points.

The major difference is in the last step.
The Dcrops player sells the agricultural products and gets SHARES points.

SHARES points and CROP tokens

In the Play section of Dcrops there is a Leaderboard subsection.

image.png

Every 15 days (at the end of each season) a Reward Pool consisting of a CROP token amount is divided among all active Dcrops players according to the SHARES points each player has earned during the season.

image.png

SHARES points allow you to receive a certain amount of CROP tokens at the end of the season as a reward for game activity.

The token CROP are the native tokens of the Dcrops game and are also second level tokens of the Hive blockchain and can be transferred, bought and sold on the following sites:
https://hive-engine.com/
https://tribaldex.com/
https://leodex.io/

image.png

Today October 26, 2021 the value of 1 CROP token is 0.00319 HIVE = $0.002 (Highest Bid)
1000 CROP tokens = 3.19 HIVE = 2.62$**.

TIPS and Buying Strategy for Begginers

After a brief introduction to the game of Dcrops I can move on to the main topic of this post of mine.

What cards to buy and why?

To begin the adventure of a farmer in the game of Dcrops it is necessary to buy two types of cards:

  • LAND cards
  • SEED cards

LAND cards can be used anytime, in any season.
SEED cards can be used only in a certain season (like in real life)

Buy packs of cards or make targeted purchases in the marketplace?

Buying a card pack or buying individual cards from the Dcrops marketplace is the first choice a new Dcrops player must make.

Alpha card packs have all been sold out, so it is not possible to buy them on the Dcrops site, but it is possible to buy them on external marketplaces such as on Hive Engine.
The selling price from Dcrops website was 2$ while now a pack of cards is sold at the price of 8.60 HIVE = 6.98$.

image.png

If I were a new player I would not buy a pack of cards at this price because if I find SEED cards that I cannot use in the current season I would have to wait to use them and consequently I would have to wait to get rewards from the game.

When opening a pack of cards, luck plays a major role.
Buying cards from the market allows you to choose only immediately usable cards.

The LAND cards

The choice of LAND cards to buy is easier than SEED cards because Land cards can be used all the time.

In the game of Dcrops there are 4 LAND cards available:

  • Average Farmland (Common): 1 plot = 1 usable seed card.
  • Fertile Land (rare): 2 plots = 2 seed cards that can be used at the same time
  • Awesome Land (Epic): 3 plots = 3 seed cards that can be used at the same time
  • Hi-Tec Land (Legendary): 4 plots = 4 seed cards that can be used at the same time

image.png

In the following image you can see the lowest prices currently on the market for each type of LAND card

image.png

LAND cards offer increasing bonuses as the rarity of the card increases.
For example, a LAND Average Farmland card offers a 2% chance of receiving an additional CROP at harvest time while a Hi-Tec LAND card offers a 10% chance of receiving 2 additional CROP at harvest time.

I, when I have to buy a LAND card I choose the one that has a lower Cost per Plot.

In the following table I have calculated the cost per plot for every single LAND card sold on the Dcrops marketplace.

image.png

As you can see from the table above, prices vary a lot depending on the rarity of the LAND card.

The rarest LAND cards offer bonuses on the harvest, but in my opinion these bonuses are not worth the difference in price between the various types of cards, so the LAND card that I recommend to buy to a new player is the Average Farmland card that has the lowest cost per plot: 1.5 HIVE per Plot!

The SEED cards

Choosing the SEED card to buy is a less simple and obvious operation than buying a LAND card.
The main difference between a SEED card and a LAND card is that a SEED card can be used only in a specific season, so buying a SEED card during a season in which it can't be used is a mistake unless the purchase price is extremely advantageous.

The advice for a new Dcrops player is to check the current season of Dcrops and the time remaining before the end of the current season before buying a SEED card.

For example, at the moment I'm writing this post the current season in the Dcrops game is the winter season.

As you can see from the following image there are only 58 minutes left until the end of winter.

image.png

Buying a SEED card that can be used during the winter means that you can use it after 45 days and this purchase does not make much sense.

The next season will be spring, so it's better to choose a SEED card that can be used during the spring season because it can be used immediately.

SEED cards have different characteristics.
For example, there are 5 SEED cards that can be used during Spring:

  • Broccoli card (common)
  • Kale card (common)
  • Cauliflower card (rare)
  • Potato card (epic)
  • Strawberry card (legendary)

image.png

Each SEED card has:

  • a production time
  • a production quantity
  • a period of use (season)
  • one or no special abilities

In the following image there are the SEED cards that can be used during the spring with the indication of all their characteristics.

image.png

Except for the legendary card Strawberry all other SEED cards that can be used during spring have a cooldown period and can only be used once per season.

Considering only the production features the best card is obviously the legendary card Strawberry because:

  • it has the special ability that allows you to use it several times during the season
  • it produces 4 strawberries every 3 days and since it can be used during the whole season it will produce 16 total strawberries whose value in Shares points is 112 points.

Having better production characteristics doesn't mean to be the best card to buy.

My advice to new players is to calculate the POINTS SHARES/HIVE ratio of a card before choosing to buy it.

The SHARES/HIVE POINTS Ratio

The SHARES/HIVE POINTS ratio indicates how many SHARES points I get for each HIVE token spent in the purchase of a SEED card.

Calculating the value of the SHARES/HIVE POINTS ratio of each SEED card is easy:

Total SHARES POINTS obtainable from the SEED card in a season / SEED card purchase cost (in HIVE)

For example, the legendary card Strawberry:

  • allows to obtain in one season a total of 112 SHARES points.
  • has a purchase cost on the market of 44 SWAP.HIVE.

The value of the SHARES POINTS/HIVE ratio of the legendary card Strawberry is 2.54.
This means that every HIVE token spent on the Strawberry card allows you to get 2.54 SHARES points during the spring season.

In the following table (eighth column) I have calculated the value of the SHARES/HIVE POINTS ratio for each SEED card usable in the spring season based on current market prices.

image.png

Based on the SHARES/HIVE points ratio, the best buy is not the legendary card Strawberry but the rare card Cauliflower.

image.png

Have we found the best card to buy? Not yet!

The SHARES/HIVE points ratio is not the only element to consider because there is another important element to consider: the production time of a SEED card.

Broccoli cards have a slightly lower SHARES/HIVE points ratio but they also have a lower production time than Cauliflower cards (5 days VS 10 days).

Four different purchase cases

To show the importance of the Share/HIVE Points ratio and the production time of a SEED card I will do a simple and practical example.

Let's take as example 4 possible purchases of a new player:

  1. purchase of a Land card (Average Farmland) + purchase of a Strawberry legendary card.
  2. purchase of 5 Land (average Farmland) cards + purchase of 5 Cauliflower common cards.
  3. purchase of 7 Land (average Farmland) cards + purchase of 7 Cauliflower community cards.
  4. purchase of 6 Land cards (average Farmland) + purchase of 12 Broccoli community cards.

Purchase Case 1: Average Farmland + Strawberry

The player who buys one Averange Farmland and one Strawberry card manages to produce 112 Share points in the spring season and spends a total of 45.50 SWAP.HIVE (using current market prices).

image.png

Purchase case 2: 5 Average Farmland cards + 5 Cauliflower cards

Whoever buys 5 Average Farmland + 5 Cauliflower cards spends 15 SWAP.HIVE and gets 120 Share points.

image.png

Whoever buys 1 Average Farmland + the Strawberry card spends 45.50 SWAP.HIVE and gets 112 Share points.

The first player spent 30.5 more SWAP.HIVE to get a lower number of SHARES points (112) than the player who bought 5 Average Farmland and 5 Cauliflower cards (120 SHARES points)!

Buying 5 Cauliflower cards instead of a single Strawberry card would seem to be the best possible purchase but this is not the case because we have not considered the difference in production time between the CauliFlower card and the Broccoli and Kale cards!

Purchase case 3: 7 Average Farmland cards + 7 Cauliflower cards

The Cauliflower card has a production time of 10 days and, since a season of Dcrops lasts 15 days, it will occupy a plot for the whole spring season and 7 plots are needed to use 7 Cauliflower cards.

Whoever buys 7 Average Farmland + 7 Cauliflower cards spends 21 SWAP.HIVE and produces 168 SHARES points (following image).

image.png

Purchase case 4: 6 Average Farmland cards + 12 Broccoli cards

Unlike the Cauliflower card, the Broccoli card has a production time of 5 days, so you only need a single plot to use two broccoli cards during the spring season.

Whoever buys 6 Average Farmland + 12 Broccoli cards (or Kale) spends 19.56 SWAP.HIVE and produces 168 SHARES points.

image.png

In this last purchase case the player has obtained the same amount of SHARES points as in the previous purchase case but has spent less: 19.56 SWAP.HIVE instead of 21.

This simple example shows how important it is in a farming game to always make calculations and evaluations before buying a card ;)

Conclusion

Often the player who approaches a farming game for the first time buys cards looking only at the characteristics of a single card without doing all the necessary calculations.

The advice and the help that I want to give to a new player who decides to sign up on Dcrops is to calculate the SHARE POINTS/HIVE ratio for each card and then simulate the purchase considering also the production time of the cards before making the real purchase.

I hope this post of mine will be useful to those who asked me for help and advice and to those who are new Dcrops players who at the beginning could make the wrong purchase choices.

In my next post I will make an evaluation of the Dcrops game only from the financial point of view and I will try to give more elements to decide whether to invest or not in this game.

If you like it, follow me to read my future posts and reports on Dcrops ;)

Important Note:

Dcrops more than a game is an investment and mainly as such should be considered.

In every kind of investment there is always a risk factor to evaluate and consider.
I am not a financial advisor and my post does not want to be in any way an invitation to invest on Dcrops but it is just the analysis and sharing of my personal investment on Dcrops on October 26, 2021.

My advice is to always invest only what you can afford to lose with a light heart!

BuyingStrategySpring.jpg
Logo image owned by @dcrops - Edit by @libertycrypto27 - Font used is Open Source

  • I punti Shares e i token CROP

image.png
Screenshot from the site: https://www.dcrops.com/

I punti SHARES e i token CROP

https://hive-engine.com/
https://tribaldex.com/
https://leodex.io/

image.png

Oggi 26 ottobre 2021 il valore di 1 token CROP è di 0.00319 HIVE = 0.002$ (Highest Bid)
1000 token CROP = 3.19 HIVE = 2.62$

TIPS and Buying Strategy for Begginers

  • Average Farmland (Comune): 1 terreno = 1 carta seme utilizzabile
  • Fertile Land (Rara): 2 terreni = 2 carte seme utilizzabili contemporaneamente
  • Awesome Land (Epica): 3 terreni = 3 carte seme utilizzabili contemporaneamente
  • Hi-Tec Land (Leggendaria): 4 terreni = 4 carte seme utilizzabili contemporaneamente

image.png

image.png

Abbiamo trovato la migliore carta da comprare? Ancora No!

image.png

Caso di acquisto 2: 5 carte Average Farmland + 5 carte Cauliflower

Chi compra 5 Average Farmland + 5 carte Cauliflower spende 15 SWAP.HIVE e ottiene 120 Share points.

image.png

Chi compra 7 Average Farmland + 7 carte Cauliflower spende 21 SWAP.HIVE e produce 168 SHARES points (immagine seguente).

image.png

Chi compra 6 Average Farmland + 12 carte Broccoli (o Kale) spende 19.56 SWAP.HIVE e produce 168 SHARES points.

image.png

That's the best article I've seen on Dcrops so far. Thank you!

One question . . . I think I read somewhere that it's best to have seeds planted on your land for as long as possible. So this season I spread out the out so each land had seeds in a plot that took a long time before harvest.

Is that correct? Or did I misunderstand something.

Hi @gillianpearce and sorry for the delay of my answer
The only usefulness in keeping the cards active for so long is for the calculation of CROP Power.

I'll put you the quote taken from a dcrops post:

Your collection value is also taken into consideration. The burn values of ALPHA edition cards are:
Common: 3 CROP
Rare: 5 CROP
Epic: 10 CROP
Legendary: 50 CROP
Active and in-active cards
A card that has been used in the last 15 days is considered to be active. For example, if you planted a seed on a particular land, then both the seed and the land will be active cards.
For inactive cards, only half of the burn value is added while for active cards, the full amount is added.

But consider that CROP Power is only useful to receive Holding Rewards and to receive the rewards you have to pass the threshold of 20000 points.
I with 42000 CROP Power receive 0.1 HIVE per day and 40000 points come from 20 packs of cards that I haven't opened.
Over 140 NFTs that I use in game are worth me just over 2000 CROP Power points.
For example keeping a common card active for ten days will only increase your crop power by 3 points.
Is it worth it? In my opinion no. Better to use the cards in play to get as many SHARES points as possible ;)

For example keeping a common card active for ten days will only increase your crop power by 3 points.

That's a great reality check! 😂

A card that has been used in the last 15 days is considered to be active.

Since I have relatively few cards, so each one possible is used each season, it makes no difference what I plant where (at least from the crop power point of view). As long as I play every card, which I do, I can't improve on that anyway.

I was thinking it related to cards played on a daily basis, rather than per season.

Thanks so much for the extra clarification.

Very helpful.

Amazing write-up! It would only take me about a month to write a post like this. lol Awesome information. I got about a quarter of the way through and decided I needed to get a coffee and breakfast to really enjoy reading the whole thing. I was fortunate enough to buy a few packs before they sold out but I haven't really spent the time optimizing my farm. This will help me immensely in figuring out how to do that. Well done!! !PIZZA

Hi @dagger212 and thank you for your comment :)
I'm really pleased that you enjoyed my post so much.
Yes I too bought some packs before they sold out and was planning to buy more but I didn't make it in time and now they cost too much second and I will focus on the market ;)

Ciao @libertycrypto27

No problem @libertycrypto27

Grazie ancora e buona serata
