Nishan-e-Haider (Pakistan's Highest Military Award)

On my visit to Military museum Rawalpindi, I saw this Nishan-e-Haider section. Nishan-e-Haider is the Pakistan's Highest Military award which has been taken by 11 martyrs till now. In these soldiers 10 were from army and one from air force. These awards has been given on the wars between 1947 to 1999 and all these wars were fought against India.

Pakistan got independence from British on 14th August 1947. After independence India sent his army in Kashmir So Indo-Pak first war started in 1947. In this war Pakistan army with limited resources fought well and two soldiers got Nishan-e-Haider, Raja Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed and Saif Ali Janjua Shaheed. In this museum they have displayed uniform and some belongings of these soldiers.

Third Nishan-e-Haider was given to Major Tufail Mohammad Shaheed who fought in the Indo-Pak war which was fought in East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh) border in 1957–58. India tried to capture some part of East Pakistan but because of Major Tufail Mohammad Shaheed's bravery India was defeated.

One of the major wars fought between India and Pakistan was 1965 war. This war took place between April 1965 to September 1965. In this war India attacked on Lahore border and they thought that they will take evening tea at Lahore but because of Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed's bravery they could not succeed. So Raja Aziz Bhatti got Nishan-e-Haider in the Battle of Burki in 1965.

The Indo-Pak War of 1971 was a massive war in which India opened many battle grounds. This war was fought from 3 December 1971 to the fall of Dhaka on 16 December 1971. In this war five soldiers were awarded Nishan-e-Haider. They were Rashid Minhas Shaheed, Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Muhammad Hussain Janjua Shaheed and Muhammad Mahfuz Shaheed. Rashid Minhas Shaheed, Pilot Officer (17 February 1951 – 20 August 1971) was the only PAF officer to receive the Nishan-e-Haider and also the youngest person and the shortest-serving officer to receive this award.

The Kargil War was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan between May to July 1999 along the Line of Control (LOC). In this conflict two soldiers got Nishan-e-Haider Karnal Sher Shaheed Khan and Lalak Jan Shaheed.
