SURRENDER. PAUSE. BREATHE: YOGA AT DAWATA WELLNESS

Blog Post 1-13.png

While attending my first yoga class for the year 2022, I realized that I have truly grown in my practice. As I moved from one pose to another, it occurred to me that indeed my yoga journey resonates with the odyssey of my life. It continues to be a long, rough but beautiful journey. Apparently I did not just learn several poses but I also got to connect with myself and ease into each moment I step on my mat.

It was such a beautiful Friday morning and I just could not stop myself from taking a photo of Cebu Business Park, the area where the yoga studio is located. By looking at it, I know that it was going to be a beautiful day.

For this year, I made a commitment to be consistent with my yoga practice. I have tried making time for myself by being on the mat everyday. Fortunately, last week, @asasiklause invited me to attend a yoga class with him in the newest yoga studio here in the Queen City of the South, Dawata Wellness. In our dialect, "Dawata" means receive and Dawata Wellness believes that we are open to receive. From what I understood from their tagline, "open to receive", I believe this signifies the gift of being able to receive the light in others. The light that others share to us is a blessing since it illuminate us as well.

Upon hearing his invitation, I was ecstatic because the last time I attended a face-to-face yoga class was before the onslaught of super typhoon Odette which was around December 2021. The experience of being in a studio with a yoga instructor is incomparable to just doing your own practice at home, the experience is totally different.

Before the class started, we took a few shots then proceeded to meditating and just being in the moment.

Since Dawata Wellness just recently opened, they had an opening promotion where in we only had to pay 108 pesos or approximately around 2 USD for an hour class. Dawata Wellness is not just a yoga studio for it also has a café set-up as you enter the reception area.

You may order coffee or tea before or after yoga class, whatever floats your boat or perhaps you can just chill at their little lounge area while drinking coffee.

Attending a yoga class at Dawata Wellness was truly remarkable. However, it was not an easy class, maybe "challenging" would be an understatement. At first, I was quite overwhelmed because most of our classmates were yoga instructors and apparently I am still a novice yoga student. But I did not let the thought of it get into me because I am going through my own journey. I am working through at my own pace and being able to do every single pose or flow our instructor asks of us to do will not define my journey.

These photos were taken after class. We were all so sweaty after an hour of doing flows but of course we made sure to put a smile on our faces.

Doing yoga is not just about being able to do advanced poses because doing yoga is about surrender. It's being accepting of the fact that you are not in control of your body so just be it, just surrender. Yoga is about being still, taking a pause from the hustles and bustles of this fast-paced world. Yoga is about taking each movement one breath at a time. Doing yoga entails one to be kind to oneself.

My favorite split pose and the last photo is me doing the king pigeon pose.

Despite the challenges I faced during the class such as falling after each advanced pose or perhaps the inability to do a pose, I found the class to be very fulfilling. I felt like I was not alone in my journey because our instructor guided us along the way. Yoga may not be a solitary journey but we grow through our own pace at our own time. Forcing yourself to learn a pose may hurt you in the end because it may not be the time yet. Consistency and commitment are what's necessary in order to prosper more as one embarks on this beautiful yoga journey.

Namaste, the light in me honors the light in you.

Yes. And this applies to everything we do. I've been in love with yoga for a long time, but I've been inconsistent. 😅 Hopefully this year I can start doing it again. Awesome poses, by the way. 💚

Oh my gosh! Love the studio! I might drop by here soon! This is so cool. Same with you, i'm trying to commit myself into the mat this year. Although I prefer doing it at home, sometimes its nice to be in different environment with like minded people.

Jason also teach in Dawata but that day he was there as a student. He was actually next to us. Quite intimidating because his inversions are amazing!
