My favorite memory case review

Hi, fellow photographers and photo enthusiasts!

I've been inspired lately to put up this review of one of my favorite photo gadgets - this small but tough camera memory case.

It perfectly fits into a pocket, trousers or backpack. It is not heavy at all. It could be hanged and tied as well.

It is dust and waterproof.

As you can see, it can hold up to 16 SD cards and 4 CF cards.

I use both of these standards as my main work camera is Canon EOD 5D Mark III and it has tow memory slots, one for SD and one for CF cards. As a side note, that is one feature of my camera that I love. During shoots that are very important I record the images in parallel to the two cards. But when traveling it gives the opportunity to extend the memory. When one of the cards is full, it auto-switches to the other memory card.

Also, CF cards are much, much faster so during sports or wildlife shoots, they are much better to use as the camera buffer gets full of serial shooting when using SD cards. Of course, that depends on the camera buffer and the speed of the card but CF allows for perfect shoots without using the most expensive equipment!

That's the opening/closing lid, pretty solid, as you can see.

Here is how it looks when closed.

This case has traveled more than a couple of hundred thousand kilometers with me. It withstood the -20 degrees C of the polar winter and the more +40 C of the sandy desert in Jordan. Here, more importantly, no sand/dust inside!

As I am of the type who prefers to travel with no laptop, no HDD/SSD, that case gives me quite big flexibility.

You may have also noticed, all my cards are SanDisk. The truth is, I had other brands of memory cards too, but once a card starts to give errors, I recycle it immediately. I cannot afford to loose photos or videos. With time, clearing out of the bad stuff, only SanDisk cards remained in my repository. That implicitly speaks about their quality, right?

Speaking of the brand and the price of the case, I can't recall with absolute certainty.

I bought this case from AliExpress after carefully choosing it. All I could tell, it costed below USD 5.00, whish was a stunningly good price for its quality. Still is, IMHO.

Moreover, I bought this case probably about 7-8 years ago, and despite the multiple trips and several usages, it still looks in pretty good shape. The isolation light blue rubber band is still in its original state.

I couldn't find any logo or brand on it though.

Even if you have only a couple of memory cards, I'd still recommend getting one of those, it will come in handy at some time.

That looks pro as fuck! What is impressive is the case surviving 8 years of use without any scratch.

It does, doesn't it :)
Moreover, I haven't cleaned it up before taking these shots with my phone :) The plastic is of good quality and somehow repels dust itself :)
Lightweight wonder :)

The sturdy, handy case was a bargain. Btw, I too use only SanDisk. Enjoyed reading this type of post from you: a master of photography sharing tips and experiences with various equipment to the novices. Thank you!

Have an enjoyable weekend!🌙🔆💫@lightcaptured

Thanks so much, Nina :)

"Master", well, I am so far away from this :) Very kind of you! :)

Well the two words that came to mind at that moment were "senior" and "master." I felt senior might be taken in out of context as reference to your age (which I do not know)😎

You have decades of mastering photography skillsets.📸

Thank you for the pizza! @lightcaptured

There is this American adjective that I like a lot, "seasoned" :)
Well, I am 50+, so probably senior fits too. :P
Young at heart, I've always been that :D

More !PIZZA for the Sunday and big thank you :)

"Seasoned" is the perfect word and definitely not a senior by my standards!

Great to see sometimes I pick the proper word, a mixture of words in my mind as I studied British English in the university, American English at the high-school and Russian and French in the primary school :D

Have a lovely day!

Hi there @lightcaptured
That case looks to be well worth the cash, 100's of times over. I can't tell you how many times I lost a memory card, thinking it will be safe there or what ever only to have just lost the whole damn thing. Now days, I've only been using my camera on the phone. So I haven't had to worry about loosing cards. How ever, I'm planning on buying a good camera soon as funds allow.
All good things come to those who wait. 😎

I use phone cameras as well but I don't find them good enough, yet :)
I'd gladly replace these heavy lenses and cameras for something much more comfy and lightweight given it does a good job. Probably in few years, future will tell :)

I was gonna say, I've never felt the need for any memory card holders. I've got 64GB and 128GB cards for my cameras and never ever fill them in a single shoot. If I have, I've overshot, or done something incredibly wrong.

Dual card slots make this even less likely (but I typically use these for redundancy); but there's one thing about SD cards - they're incredibly resilient, unless you manage to snap them. :D

The safest place, is often in my camera bodies, as they're weather sealed.

Indeed that depends on what kind of photography you're into ;)
With travel, event and sometimes action and wildlife, I'd prefer to take tons of photos and then delete those I don't like instead of missing a great moment and story ;) Also, when I travel, I prefer to have an extra pair of cards, instead of having to search where to buy from. At the most tourist destinations, cards are more expensive and not with the best specs from photo perspective.

With product and portrait photography, it's the other way around, close to what you share. I rarely take more than a hundred images per hour, tops.

Thanks for your input! :)

Hm... I've never thought about such a device)
For storage, it is undoubtedly convenient. But when traveling, I carry a laptop with me (it's also a Lightroom with the Internet). And I haven't been able to fill up a whole memory card in one day yet.
But for storing spare cards, this is a good option. And the case should not be small, otherwise it will get lost among other small things))

A laptop is the thing I am the most reluctant to carry on with me when traveling.
Mainly because I'll have to pay an extra bag for the airplanes and then for security reasons as I will be leaving it in the room/hotel when out shooting. Also, easy to break when on the road (happened already) :)
I try to travel as lightweight as possible too :) My age speaking :)))

I'm not a young man either)) Six dozen have already been left behind ... :)
But I don't have such long trips. Also, my laptop is quite small. It's not very convenient for photo processing, but if I want, I can even carry it with me without leaving it in the room. I'm not good friends with a smartphone and Android ...))
However, a small case and spare memory cards will definitely not be superfluous.

The poet in you has spoken! :)

I don't like working with phones yet, too far away from what I expect from a camera device ;)

Maybe there are smartphones with cool cameras and manual shooting settings... but they are too expensive and then... I have a real camera, why spend extra money. The smartphone will still not have interchangeable lenses 🤣😂 😅

Probably we'll see soon interchangeable lens on phone cameras, who knows ;)
My mid-range Sony phone allows for full manual and it costed me less than EUR 200 (discounted price for renewing my carrier contract for two more years). Still expensive, in the richer Western EU countries I would get that for free instead.

I agree with you, I would spend on better photo equipment, but only if I have to. Challenging times...

I don't believe in small-diameter optics like on smart phones, even if it is replaceable. There are no miracles. Although... progress does not stand still))Technology, everything rests on them.

Yes... times are really difficult and I see no reason for them to become easier in the coming years (and in the Western EU too).

I assume that I already have everything to technically take a high-quality photo (I don't mean professional studio equipment). But the photo is not taken by a camera with a lens, but by a photographer. Here I have a lot to strive for. And hard times can only be an excuse))

Everything ends sometime, and the dark stripes too))
I myself am more of a realist than an optimist.
But we will not be angry at the bad weather. There are things that we can change. You have to adapt to the rest or just live your life. Optimal... combine both approaches))
External reality is a reflection of ourselves. Life exists even in hell... :)
