Scam Warning

avatar

Hi, bees, drones, killer bees and queen bees!

Be warned about the following scam that I received recently.

It looks almost convincing if it wasn't for the few clues ;)

- I don't order stuff from Cambodia (+855 is the country code)

- The message grammar is strange, there are unusual phrases and repetitions of words.

I guess not many of you read Bulgarian, so here is the English translation:

"Your package delivery address is incorrect and package delivery has been stopped. Please update in time.
Your package has been confiscated because there is no house number. Update your shipping information

Activate the link or copy the link to open it in your browser"

The positives from all that is that I have learned the international phone code of Cambodia and what RCS message is.

I am not sure how the scammers got my phone number, I guess some of the centralized crypto exchanges I use had been hacked. It seems they know I am on Android as RCS isn't compatible with iOS...

Don't click on such links or...

Ah, my father mentioned he had some such message a few days ago and he asked me if we had ordered anything recently. We often do order stuff for the company. Except for the daily deliveries, I mean. I said we were but from a known source and I had provided only my work number, not his so this was a weird coincidence that got him confused. I guess it's very possible his message was from that Cambodian source and I think he said he had clicked the link provided before severing the connection and calling me. I hope damage was not great. Told him to not even click links next time. Even harder to stay safe when via smartphones :(

Yeah, scammers getting more and more creative. So much talent, time and energy waste but I guess this world deserves it and it's economically justified, otherwise it wouldn't exists, right...
His phone might need a check for malware/keylogger... Hopefully no damage.
