Second curtain synchronization

Have you tried the setting of second curtain synchronization?

This setting really makes a meaningful impact when shooting long exposure photographs with moving objects and light sources included in the frame.

The second curtain synchronization actually means that the flash that the camera controls, fires at the moment when second curtain covers the camera sensor. In other words, the flash fires at the last moment before the photograph is "done".

The difference of using first curtain synchronization for these photos below would be that the people spinning the fire balls here would be "masked" by the moving fire during the remaining exposure time.

i have played with the second curtain in the past longhutter times and rolling a ball towards me, but never really used it in the field. looking at your images above i clearly see another option to use it, although i wonder if the flash should have been less bright in your pictures. or maybe use the flash with the pringles and straw to light up her face only ? o well thinking out loud , wat do i know i'm just a macro guy 😄

Oh, the flash power is a great topic :)
Here though, as the models were moving a lot and it is outdoors, the automatic mode didn't work at all, so I switched to manual and was trying during the half of the time to set a proper value. :) In a studio, I would use proper strobes and directional light indeed ;)
Well spotted and I think your suggestion will work into lovely artistic effect!

A little off topic as someone who doesn't have the necessary equipment for this effect - the second picture seems to depict a witch waving a magic wand and creating some 'things'. It's magical! And really perfect for Halloween 🧙‍♀️🎃
