Wretched support by Crypto.com and my Goodbye

Today I am closing a page. A crypto provider that has been only a waste of time for me.

So once I post this, I am deleting the mobile app and blocking all emails from them.

Crypto.com is over, for me, for good!

Here is the story:

  • November 2023. Many of us got the email by Binance letting us know their prepaid Visa card program ends in a month.

  • I started to search for alternative right away and as I already had an account with Crypto.com it was logical to apply for their card. I already had KYC done there but I had to provide a document for address verification.

  • Early December 2023 I sent them my latest electricity utility bill.

  • After waiting for two months and nothing happening with my address verification and its status "Pending" I decided to write to their support. That happened on 8 February 2024.

  • 12 February 2024, I receive and email by "Merlin" (should feel magical but it doesn't!), here's an excerpt: "I'm reaching out regarding your latest inquiry. First and foremost, I sincerely apologise for the delayed response and any inconvenience this may have caused you. We strive to provide timely and efficient service to all our customers, and it’s clear we fell short in this instance. As a significant amount of time has passed, we understand that your needs may have changed or the issue might have been resolved.
    If your inquiry is still relevant, I kindly ask that you reach out to us again, and we will prioritise your concern."

  • My response from the same day: "I just checked the mobile app and my inquiry is still relevant as the Address Verification status is still "Pending"."

  • Then radio silence...

  • 28 February, a new email by "Kara": "I'm reaching out regarding your latest inquiry. First and foremost, I sincerely apologise for the delayed response and any inconvenience this may have caused you. We strive to provide timely and efficient service to all our customers, and it’s clear we fell short in this instance. As a significant amount of time has passed, we understand that your needs may have changed or the issue might have been resolved. If your inquiry is still relevant, I kindly ask that you reach out to us again, and we will prioritise your concern."

Nope, no, you don't strive. You don't strive at all. Goodbye and good luck!

Not wasting a minute more, nor replying...


TL;DR:

Avoid Crypto.com! Imagine to have to wait that long and don't know what is happening if it was regarding some lost transfers or anything else involving money...

Yeah, I had a similar experience with them, it looks like they are actively avoiding getting any new clients and their support is literally non-existent.

Wouldn't want that kind of attitude around anything even remotely money-related.

I had that feeling too, and that is strange considering more and more people investing in crypto.
As a company, they did things there clients didn't like, on several occasions, and that still reflects the CRO price ;) More time on my side for things that matter.

My hope for the future is that we will no longer need cex but will be able to use cryptos directly...but I think it will still take some time for that to happen

My hope too but let's face it... there are too many bureaucrats on fat paychecks who will do their best to prevent that from happening or to slow it down as much as possible ;)

My mom wants to close her crypto cro account, so I was trying to close it for her, but it's impossible because they never respond and there are no buttons in the app to close down the app account when you are trying to leave.

I still need my account because of the lack of exchanges in my area, but you don't want the card because they have inactivity fees now, never accept the new terms on the card or they will start charging you forever.

So I guess, it would appear I got lucky by not getting that approval, hehehe.

Nowadays I don't think there are many card issuers that won't apply some nasty hidden fees. The last three providers I checked all have inactivity fees. From $2 to $26 per year, activated at the 6th-12th month.

It seems there is almost no competition when it comes to crypto exchanges that provide direct spending of crypto assets or instant refills of prepaid FIAT cards. 2-3 tops, for EU. Their exchange rates, when spending, also suck - from 1 to 3%. Then the refill fee too, up to 2%.
