Thanks to the Cineconcern Mosfilm, with a great pleasure, I can recommend you for watching, the timeless movie classic, directed by a famous Andrei Tarkovsky in 1979 – Stalker.

The storyline is based on a Sci-Fi novel written by the brothers Strugatsky – Arkady Natanovich Strugatsky (28 August 1925 – 12 October 1991) and Boris Natanovich Strugatsky – (14 April 1933 – 19 November 2012) titled “Roadside picnic”, written in 1971 and published in 1972. The book was translated in English and published in 1977, but got globally known after Tarkovsky made a brilliant movie Symphony about a forbidden Zone and a Stalker leading people who have lost their illusions and hope…

Roadside Picnic is a “first contact” story with a difference. Aliens have visited the Earth and gone away again, leaving behind them several landing areas (now called the Zones) littered with their refuse. The picnickers have gone; the pack rats, wary but curious, approach the crumpled bits of cellophane, the glittering pull tabs from beer cans, and try to carry them home to their holes.
— From the Foreword By Ursula K. Le Guin

For those who want more, you can read Full Foreword By Ursula K. Le Guin, and for those who are impatient to start watching this fairly long movie, just a few more words…

The events are set in a small, unnamed country, where one of those forbidden areas, called “The Zone”, is located. The Zone is sealed off with barbed wire and border guards who are ready to shot intruders, but that cannot stop people to attempt entering the zone. We are following three men on their search for a special place inside the zone, called the Room, where, according to rumors, the wishes are granted. One of them is a Writer in search for an inspiration, the other is a Professor, who allegedly wants to research the Zone for scientific purposes… or some other hidden motives… Their guide is a man to who is ready to sacrifice everything for the Zone – a tragic fool, or an Apostle of the new faith?

As in every great novel – and a movie – the initial story goes far beyond the boundaries of the genre and raises universal philosophical questions about the nature of humanity and meaning of life…
