Cienfuegos; A beautiful place to visit [ESP-ENG]

Hello Pinmapple friends, I am from Havana, Cuba and I come to this community because last week I made a vacation trip to the beautiful city of Cienfuegos, "La Perla del Sur", as we Cubans call it, located in the province of the same name, I decided to spend time with the family so I traveled to this city, where two nephews live. I took a tour of the city and I bring them to you for your enjoyment. Later I will make other more specific posts of different places, but here I will show you a panoramic view of the city.

This province is located in the central part of our elongated island towards the south coast, almost 230 km from Havana, so between stops made and our old car 🤭, it took us about 4 hours approximately to arrive, the road is quite monotonous by the 8-lane highway, where you travel in a straight line without detour 170 km and then a new detour that all cienfuegueros call "El Vial", culminating the almost 60 km remaining to reach the city.

Hola amigos de Pinmapple, soy de La Habana, Cuba y vengo a esta comunidad porque la semana pasada hice un viaje de vacaciones a la hermosa ciudad de Cienfuegos, "La Perla del Sur", como la llamamos los cubanos, ubicada en la provincia del mismo nombre, decidí pasar tiempo con la familia así que viajé a esta ciudad, donde viven dos sobrinos. Hice un recorrido por la ciudad y se los traigo para su disfrute. Más adelante haré otros post más específicos de diferentes lugares, pero aquí les mostraré una panorámica de la ciudad.

Esta provincia se encuentra en la parte central de nuestra alargada isla hacia la costa sur, a casi 230 km de La Habana, por lo que entre paradas realizadas y nuestro viejo coche 🤭, tardamos unas 4 horas aproximadamente en llegar, el camino es bastante monótono por la autopista de 8 carriles, donde se recorren en línea recta sin desvío 170 km y luego un nuevo desvío que todos los cienfuegueros llaman "El Vial", culminando los casi 60 km restantes para llegar a la ciudad.

Cienfuegos was founded in 1819, although Cuba was a colony of Spain in those years, this city was founded by the French, which makes it special, for being the only city in Cuba with French roots, the entrance to the city of Cienfuegos is through a neighborhood called Pastorita, in honor of an architect who designed several buildings in that neighborhood. It is the only place in Cienfuegos that has tall buildings, the buildings in that city are usually quite low and colonial architecture predominates.
It is one of the cities that I like most in Cuba, for its architecture, because they take great care of their heritage and for the cleanliness of its streets.

Cienfuegos fue fundada en 1819, a pesar de que Cuba era colonia de España en aquellos años, esta ciudad fue fundada por franceses, lo que la hace especial, por ser la única ciudad de Cuba con raíces francesas, la entrada a la ciudad de Cienfuegos es por un barrio llamado Pastorita, en honor a un arquitecto que diseñó varios edificios en ese barrio. Es el único lugar de Cienfuegos que tiene edificios altos, los edificios de esa ciudad suelen ser bastante bajos y predomina la arquitectura colonial.

Es una de las ciudades que más me gustan de Cuba, por su arquitectura, porque cuidan mucho su patrimonio y por la limpieza de sus calles.

Continuing straight on without deviating we arrive at the Prado, is much longer than the one in Havana, measuring 1.6 km, although it is totally different, the people of Cienfuegos are very proud of it. It crosses the city completely and reaches the spectacular Malecón. It is a reference point for everything, whenever you ask for directions, they take the Prado as a starting point for anywhere in the city. Unlike the one in Havana it does not have the lions at each of its ends, but arriving to the center of the Prado in one of the sidewalks there are 2 cast iron lions that seem from their retreat to watch over the Prado, when someone says, but this Prado has no lions, at the moment they point them out 😅.

Siguiendo recto sin desviarnos llegamos al Prado, es mucho más largo que el de La Habana, mide 1,6 km, aunque es totalmente diferente, los cienfuegueros están muy orgullosos de él. Atraviesa la ciudad por completo y llega hasta el espectacular Malecón. Es un punto de referencia para todo, siempre que preguntas por una dirección, toman el Prado como punto de partida para cualquier lugar de la ciudad. A diferencia del de La Habana no tiene los leones en cada uno de sus extremos, pero llegando al centro del Prado en una de las aceras hay 2 leones de hierro fundido que parecen desde su retiro vigilar el Prado, cuando alguien dice, pero este Prado no tiene leones, al momento los señalan 😅.

Along the Prado there are different centers of importance, the municipal library, a majestic building, the Luisa Theater, the Coppelia, the Provincial Directorate of Finance, a series of portals with columns that captivate me. In the Prado also begins the Boulevard, very nice by the way, more than the one in Havana, although I can not say the same about its long and sunny Prado.

A lo largo del Prado hay diferentes centros de importancia, la biblioteca municipal, un edificio majestuoso, el Teatro Luisa, el Coppelia, la Dirección Provincial de Hacienda, una serie de portales con columnas que me cautivan. En el Prado también comienza el Bulevar, muy bonito por cierto, más que el de La Habana, aunque no puedo decir lo mismo de su largo y soleado Prado.

An important piece of that Paseo del Prado is the statue of Beny Moré, the sonero mayor, national pride, of which the people of Cienfuegos rightly boast. It is a very well sculpted bronze statue, with clear details of the lines of his face and the folds of his clothes, I loved it.

Una pieza importante de ese Paseo del Prado es la estatua de Benny Moré, el sonero mayor, orgullo nacional, del que con razón presumen los cienfuegueros. Es una estatua de bronce muy bien esculpida, con claros detalles de las líneas de su rostro y los pliegues de su ropa, me encantó.

Leaving the Prado we submerged in the immensity of the sea contemplating it from its boardwalk, the sea in those days was very calm. In front of the boardwalk is the Plaza, a large place with small pink buildings, similar to the facades of the houses that have benches at their feet so that those who are tired of walking around the place can rest. In this place many activities take place, nightly musical fairs, it is also used for political acts. There are two large gastronomic centers in the place.

Saliendo del Prado nos sumergimos en la inmensidad del mar contemplándolo desde su malecón, el mar en esos días estaba muy tranquilo. Frente al malecón se encuentra la Plaza, un lugar amplio con pequeños edificios de color rosa, parecidos a las fachadas de las casas que tienen bancos a sus pies para que los que están cansados de caminar por el lugar puedan descansar. En este lugar se realizan muchas actividades, ferias musicales nocturnas, también se utiliza para actos políticos. Hay dos grandes centros gastronómicos en el lugar.

At the end of the boardwalk there is a recreational center called "Los Pinitos" which has a huge sign that can be seen from the boardwalk where the figure of the great sonero Benny Moré stands out, it is luminous, at night the sign illuminates the whole place, do not take a picture at night because you do not have a good camera.

Al final del malecón hay un centro recreativo llamado "Los Pinitos" que tiene un enorme letrero que se ve desde el malecón donde destaca la figura del gran sonero Benny Moré, es lumínico, de noche ilumina todo el lugar ese letrero, no tomen foto de noche por no tener una buena cámara.

A little beyond the boardwalk is the Marina, we saw their yachts in the distance, this marina belongs to the Club House, a very nice recreational place with excellent service.

Un poco más allá del malecón está la Marina, vimos sus yates a lo lejos, esta marina pertenece a la Casa Club un lugar recreativo muy bonito y de excelente servicio.

We passed by the entrance of two important hotels of the city but with totally different architectural structures, La Casa Azul and El Jagua.

Pasamos por la entrada de dos Hoteles importantes de la ciudad pero con estructuras arquitectónicas totalmente distintas, La Casa Azul y El Jagua.

At the end of the street we arrived back to the sea, to the Guanaroca cove, just before arriving there is a large fountain lined with gray stones with a sculpture in the center made of iron representing the Guanaroca Indian, there is a legend that explains that the emergence of this cove is due to the tears of the Indian for the loss of a son.

Al final de la calle llegamos de nuevo al mar, a la ensenada Guanaroca, justo antes de llegar hay una gran fuente forrada de piedras grises con una escultura en el centro hecha de hierro que representa a la India Guanaroca , existe una leyenda que explica que el surgimiento de esta ensenada se deben a las lágrimas de la india por la perdida de un hijo.

At the end of the afternoon we stopped at a place near the bay known as "La Piña Colada" because it is the drink that identifies it, but what I liked most about that place is the large pier that is adjacent to the bay, it is a beauty to contemplate the infinite sea from there, I liked it a lot. On the edges of the pier there are small stairs for those who want to approach the sea, in the center there are some benches, which due to the intensity of the sun were empty, at the end of the pier there was a structure that look like giant glasses, when I approach I realize that the structure was made with tractor tires and metal structures, according to my nephew they were part of an art exhibition that took place a few months ago.

Al final de la tarde nos detuvimos en un lugar cercano a la bahía conocido como "La Piña Colada" porque es la bebida que la identifica, pero lo que más me gustó de ese lugar es el gran muelle que está contiguo a la bahía, es una belleza contemplar el mar infinito desde ahí, me gustó mucho. En los bordes del muelle hay unas pequeñas escaleras para los que quieran acercarse al mar, en el centro hay unas bancas, que debido a la intensidad del sol estaban vacías, al final del muelle había una estructura que parecen unas gafas gigantes, cuando me acerco me doy cuenta que la estructura estaba hecha con llantas de tractor y estructuras metálicas, según mi sobrino eran parte de una exposición de arte que se realizó hace unos meses.

All this beautiful city does not fit in a single post, it is visited by thousands of tourists looking for that atmosphere of tranquility, with a very well maintained colonial style and clean streets, I hope you have enjoyed it. Greetings to all, see you ❤️
