Josone: a tropical paradise in the heart of Varadero / Josone: un paraíso tropical en el corazón de Varadero

More than two weeks ago, I visited the city of Varadero, where I enjoyed a family outing and we arranged to have lunch at El Retiro restaurant, located in Josone Park, in the middle of nature.

Hace más de dos semanas, visité la ciudad de Varadero, donde disfruté de una excursión en familia y coordinamos almorzar en el restaurante El Retiro, ubicado en el Parque Josone, en medio de la naturaleza.

After hours at sea, our appetites were ravenous and we headed to the park. Upon arrival, the beauty of the place left us speechless from the first moment. As we walked along the paths, we were surprised by the exuberant vegetation that spread around us, with beautiful flowering bushes of various colors that gave life to the place.

Después de horas en el mar, nuestro apetito era voraz y nos dirigimos al parque. Al llegar, la belleza del lugar nos dejó sin palabras desde el primer momento. A medida que caminábamos por los senderos, nos sorprendió la exuberante vegetación que se extendía a nuestro alrededor, con lindos arbustos floridos de variados colores le daban vida al lugar.

Josone Park is located at the intersection of 1st Avenue and 56th Street, in Varadero and owes its name to its founders, José and Onelia, who in 1942 decided to baptize this hacienda with the first three letters of their names. At the entrance to the park you can see two statues in his honor, as well as a large banner that marks the different areas of the park.

El parque Josone se encuentra en la intersección de la 1ª avenida y la calle 56, en Varadero y debe su nombre al de sus fundadores, José y Onelia, que en 1942 decidieron bautizar esta hacienda con las tres primeras letras de sus nombres. A la entrada del parque se pueden ver dos estatuas en su honor, así como una gran pancarta que marca las diferentes zonas del parque.

The path from the main entrance takes us right to the center of the park, where we find an impressive pond with an island in the middle, surrounded by large palm trees and flocks of ducks and other waterfowl. There are two bridges in the pond, one that connects the island with one of its shores and another that crosses the pond connecting us with other gastronomic centers. There is a spectacular view and impressive photos can be taken. You can rent water bikes and go boating.

El camino desde la entrada principal nos lleva justo al centro del parque, donde encontramos un impresionante estanque con una isla en medio, rodeado de grandes palmeras y bandadas de patos y otras aves acuáticas. Hay dos puentes en el estanque, uno que conecta la isla con una de sus orillas y otro que cruza el estanque conectándonos con otros centros gastronómicos. Hay una vista espectacular y se pueden hacer fotos impresionantes. Se pueden rentar bicicletas acuáticas y pasear en bote.

We made the decision to take a short tour of the place before going to the restaurant where we would have dinner, the place captivated us, we arrived at "Bar 1920". This is made up of an open structure completely made of wood and like all the constructions of the place with orange tile roofs. I really liked the openwork wood work that it has, both in the railings and in the work that is attached to the roof, from any place that one occupies there is always a view of the lake, which makes this place have a strategic position within the park , plus all the surroundings are adorned with flowering plants.

Tomamos la decisión de hacer un pequeño recorrido por el lugar antes de ir al restaurante donde cenaríamos, el lugar nos cautivó, llegamos al “Bar 1920”. Este se compone de una estructura abierta completamente de madera y como todas las construcciones del lugar con techos de teja naranja. Me gustó mucho el trabajo de madera calada que tiene, tanto en los barandales como en el trabajo que va adosado al techo, desde cualquier lugar que uno ocupe siempre da la vista al lago lo que hace que este lugar tenga una posicionarse estratégicamente dentro del parque, además de que todos los alrededores están adornados con plantas con flores.

Frente al "Bar 1920" sale cada 1 hora un trenecito que da un recorrido por toda la instalación que abarca 9 hectáreas, también llega hasta el Boulevard de Varadero que queda a un kilómetro de distancia, lamentamos mucho no tener tiempo para hacer el recorrido.

Next is the Dante restaurant, specialized in Italian food, it has an old style that resembles a small castle, its walls are made of square stone. At the entrance there are two jars among the plants of the small gardens, these ornaments were customary in country houses. This was one of the first houses to be built in that great paradise. The front of the restaurant was closed for repairs, the service was from where the terrace is, that part also has its charm, I really like the part that protrudes from the terrace over the pond, it gives the place a romantic touch.

A continuación se encuentra el restaurante Dante, especializado en comida italiana, tiene un estilo antiguo que se asemeja a un pequeño castillo, sus paredes son de piedra cuadrada. En la entrada hay dos tinajas entre las plantas de los pequeños jardines, estos adornos eran costumbre en las casas de campo. Esta fue una de las primeras casas que se construyó en ese gran paraíso. El frente del restaurante estaba cerrado por reparaciones, el servicio se brindaba donde está la terraza, esa parte de también tiene su encanto, me gusta mucho el efecto del saliente de la terraza sobre el estanque, le da un toque romántico al lugar.

When crossing the bridge, to the right, we see "The Wine Grotto", it had not yet opened, but its design is to simulate a real grotto with iron and wood tables and chairs, you can see a stone bar. The ceiling and walls resemble moldy stones. I was able to touch it and it is a synthetic material in many parts but it looks so real that I even thought it was.

Al cruzar el puente, a la derecha, vemos "La Gruta del Vino", aún no había abierto, pero su diseño es simular una gruta real con mesas y sillas de hierro y madera, se puede ver una barra de piedra. El techo y paredes se asemejan a piedras enmohecidas. Pude tocarlo y es un material sintético en muchas partes pero se ve tan real que hasta pensé que lo era.

Following the edge of the lake, we pass near some pigeon houses, they look very pretty among the foliage.

Siguiendo el borde del lago, pasamos cerca a unas casitas para palomas , se ven muy bonitas entre el follaje.

We arrived at La Guarapera. Its design evokes the tradition of cane sugar mills, it is adorned with cogwheels and the furniture is made of iron and wood, giving a rustic atmosphere. The place offers a variety of refreshing drinks to enjoy during the day, but at night it turns into a dance floor, where tourists can enjoy 100% Cuban music.

Llegamos a la Guarapera. Su diseño, evoca la tradición de los trapiches de caña, esta adornado con ruedas dentadas y el mobiliario es de hierro y madera, dando un ambiente rustico. El lugar ofrece una variedad de bebidas refrescantes para disfrutar en el día, pero por la noche se transforma en una pista de baile, donde los turistas pueden deleitarse con la música 100% cubana.

We came to one of the side entrances to the park. It has an iron arch that adorns it, with the name and year of foundation on its upper part. From there, we rushed to the restaurant, stomachs rumbling with hunger haha

Llegamos a una de las entradas laterales del parque, Tiene una arco de hierro que la adorna, con el nombre y año de fundación en su parte superior. A partir de ahí, nos apresuramos hacia el restaurante, con el estómago rugiendo de hambre jaja

To enter the restaurant "El Retiro" for lunch, we found that we put on more appropriate clothing. At the entrance, there is a lobby with colonial furniture, including some beautiful upholstered chairs in wine red. I must say that this building is the most refined in the place, with its neoclassical style and its history as the former home of the couple that owns the entire Hacienda.

Para entrar al restaurante "El Retiro" a almorzar, tuvimos que ponernos ropa más adecuada. En la entrada, hay un vestíbulo con muebles coloniales, incluyendo unas hermosas sillas tapizadas en un rojo vino. Debo decir que esta edificación es la más refinada del lugar, con su estilo neoclásico y su historia como la antigua casa de la pareja dueña de toda la Hacienda.

In the restaurant, the windows are framed by arches with stained glass windows that present beautiful flowers and vegetation, harmonizing perfectly with the environment. Glass and iron doors leading to the bar add a modern touch. The entire place is painted white, creating an image of extreme neatness and elegance.

En el restaurante, las ventanas están enmarcadas por arcos con vitrales que presentan hermosas flores y vegetación, armonizando perfectamente con el ambiente. Las puertas de vidrio y hierro que dan a la barra añaden un toque moderno. Todo el lugar está pintado de blanco, creando una imagen de extrema pulcritud y elegancia.

Next to the bar, there is a room that was previously the main room of the house, according to what one of the workers explained to me. In it, you can see large vases and some furniture and a piano that provides an air of sophistication.

Junto a la barra, se encuentra una sala que anteriormente era la sala principal de la casa, según me explicó uno de los trabajadores. En ella, se pueden apreciar grandes jarrones y algunos muebles y un piano que aporta un aire de sofisticación.

At the end of the hall is a turned wood barred terrace that looks out to a rear of the lake. It really is a beautiful and peaceful place.

Al final del pasillo, se encuentra una terraza con barrotes de madera torneada que se asoma a una parte trasera del lago. Realmente es un lugar hermoso y tranquilo.

The evening was wonderful and the food delicious, enjoying an exceptional place, it is a recreational place that anyone would be delighted to visit. See you soon
