Illiteracy -The solution Week 138
Greetings friends, today I identified with the theme of the solution, focused on illiteracy. I have been teaching for 16 years, dedicated to teaching and strengthening learning through the use of technology.
This journey has allowed me to see in two different times how education in my country or in my place of work had improved in terms of knowledge of children, but after the pandemic by covid-19, we live another latent reality that worries me greatly because we are in front of children who at this point do not even know how to read and are already in advanced grades.
Approximately three months ago a diagnosis was made to see what were the competencies that the students had acquired in this period of distance learning that lasted approximately 2 years. This diagnosis showed a lack of competencies in reading and writing and mathematical operations. I consider that this is an indicator that leads us to believe that our children are being functionally illiterate as a result of distance education, which means that our children do not have the ability to analyze or solve problems. Distance education was assumed by many parents who do not have the necessary knowledge to teach their children. This resulted in this diagnosis that we have present in the institutions.
In my particular case, the children in my work center return to distance education and only see classes one day, since the infrastructure is very damaged and the teachers, due to low salaries, are not giving classes. This situation puts us in a delicate situation again and our children are the most affected.
Now a possible solution to functional illiteracy, at least locally and placing in a real situation, would be to create community reading circles where children can attend twice a week to support and make children can acquire the skills to be able to discern any content and analyze real situations.
It would be a collaborative work with the communities, a contribution for the benefit of the children who are the future of a country.

Education has a lot to do with gaining knowledge and helping individual become the best in what they do. Illiteracy is a disease and a killer and I would also want to find a solution to help children if I am capable.
