Air-conditioned "Market" Friday? Maybe A New Place I'll Love
Yep, you heard it right.
We used to have hypermarts that are very similar to air conditioned wet markets, but for the recent years the concept stores has taken Kuala Lumpur by storm, and it was getting harder to even do bulk purchases as even warehouse sales concentrate on prepacked purchase.
But this definitely delighted me when I stumbled at the recently reopened hypermarket when I was looking for Prunes for my dad. The delight of seeing bulk sale aisle with more than 6 types of flour (gluten and gluten free), spices and dried meat and fungus just made my day!
Even the fruits were on bulk sale section.
I have no idea how huge this place is but I can only say, it's HUGE, and if you are walking aimlessly not knowing which section belongs to which aisle, get ready for sore feet.
Fried mushrooms, mung beans, lentils, you name it, they got it if it is well used by the locals. It may not look the most hygiene being exposed in this decorative way, but hey, these food cannot be eaten without proper cooking, so I guess it is still OK.
This bunch, sliced dried shitake mushrooms are a real treat for mom and myself. We love these but due to small refrigeration unit we couldn't store too much fresh produce, so these precut dehydrated ones are perfect when we can purchase as we needed.
The only disadvantage is that I am not certain if they allow us to bring our own containers to store in the light of zero waste, I might attempt to ask them the next round because they don't have a zero out section for self bringing containers.
Guess Malaysians are still not up to the environment awareness with spoiled facilities such as readily provided plastic bags that most home owners prefers to use them as mini garbage bags while preparing dinner in their homes (tiny or not)
There it is, my #marketfriday moment although this is a day late, still worth reminiscing and remembering of such a place in the blockchain!

I didn't know they changed your wet markets! I love the wet markets, everything was so much cheaper there! I suppose we all have to change with the times, but, why?? When it is working so well!
I really like the idea of bringing your own containers. Nice way to keep it all fresh and together until you get home. I like it. Haha. Yeah. Most of the markets are dwindling and with the pandemic even more wet markets were closed and people had to resort to concept stores.
But it was really great to see there was a (sort of) wet market section for this air conditioning hypermart where not all of them of the same franchise do the same.
We had our fist bulk store but because of the pandemic and movement control order their closest branch to my area was closed due to unable to sustain it.
So finding this one was definitely a sight for sore eyes!
