The Lego store in London December PUD Guessing Contest winners announcement

(Edited)

Last month I posted about a visit to my local Lego store in UK. It just so happened a few days ago I went to another Lego store in central London. Normally when I pass by, there is always a long queue outside waiting to get in. There was no queue today, and I had time to spare before dinner, so I jumped right in.

London underground

With a mask of course!! And I jumped right onto the underground which is built out of Lego. I couldn't resist taking a photo next to the Queen's Guard on one side, and Shakespear on the other. Call me childish, but who wouldn't be when you're here?!!!!

London is well connected by the underground, or the Tube as we call it. Here's a simplified version of the Tube map. And a few of the famous tube stations, all built out of Lego blocks of course.
20211208_153732.jpg

Westminster is where the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben are, guarded by a policeman. Here's a little trivia, do you know a bobby is a nickname for policman in UK?
20211208_153746.jpg

Leicester Square is the name of the station where this store is, if you ever come to London and want to visit you know where to go. This entire stand and the lamp post, is also built out of Lego. I actually stopped and checked on the way out, but after seeing everything I saw in the store, it didn't surprise me anymore of what they were capable of building.
20211208_155502.jpg

Another famous tube station is called Piccadilly Circus, when you see images of the busy London, often it's taken here.
20211208_155425.jpg

British iconic objects

There are some other iconic British objects that everyone will always recognise. For instance, the red telephone box and the red pillar post box.
20211208_153756.jpg

And here's more trivia for you. Do you know what the letters E II R means? You might have seen it on British royal documents. E II is Elizabeth the Second, our current queen. And R stands for .... not Royal, but Regina, which means queen in Latin.
20211208_153842.jpg

Big Ben is also synonymous with London, and we saw a glimpse of it just now at the Westminster tube station sign. Here's the full view of it, it is massively tall, and I just realised this is a real clock. I hadn't noticed it in the store as there was so much to see.
20211208_155445.jpg

And here I am on the second floor looking straight ahead at the top of Big Ben. The details are just fascinating. I wonder how long it took them to build this?
20211208_154059.jpg

Map of London

And finally, the centre piece in the store is undoubtedly this map of London that spans across the corner of the staircase as you go upstairs. I've kept the guy in the photo so you can get an idea of how large it is. I think this is so fascinating and mesmerising to look at.
20211208_154133.jpg

The buildings use different height Lego blocks to create a 3D effect. No matter where you stand to look at it, it still looks very real. For example the London Bridge on the corner next to the London Eye is actually built out of an entire triangle block, you can see it if you look upwards in the photo below. Likewise the boat on the River Thames is also 3D.
20211208_155344.jpg

And from this image below, you'll see more clearly the layers and the 3D effects.
20211208_154914.jpg

Here's the London Bridge again. It looks flat, but now you know it isn't.
20211208_155027.jpg

And zooming into Big Ben and the red buses, you can even see the little people on the streets. Absolutely incredible!!!

PUD Guessing Contest announcement

This month I was worried this was going to be a difficult guess, but I really underestimated you guys!!!! Out of the 28 entries, 15 got it right!! This is a tap (or faucet as some parts of the world call it), and specifically the two arms on either side is an air dryer. Some of you even knew the specific brand!!! To be honest, I only saw this for the first time a couple months ago, and was very impressed with it.
20211104_193700.jpg

Anyway, congratulations to all those who guessed correctly. You will share the 20 HBD prize pool, so each person will get 1.3 HBD. And those who powered up as well, there are 7 of you will get double, 2.6 HBD. If you won and I missed your power up, please let me know.

I new it! I knew it! Even thought you wanted to make it difficult! I knew it! 💪 Congrats to the others as well!

That Lego store is amazing! I visited the Hasbro office in Budapest years ago, where they had some cool puzzles put together, like the Orient express, in 3D puzzle, so I know how you felt. Thanks for sharing those cool photos.

It wasn't as difficult as I thought, but as always, it's all about the fun.

The Hasbro story sounds fun as they do a lot of fun toys. If it's years ago, I guess there will be little photos? Those were the days, we never thought we'd need to take a lot of photos to blog!!!

There will be no photos as I don't have any :( But if you know Hasbro, you know how cool their stuff is.

That Lego map is incredible. Super impressive.
I did know that police officers were called Bobby's but I don't know why they are called that. I didn't know what the initials meant until you said it though.

I believe bobby was named after Robert Peel, a British prime minister, when he created the UK police force in the search 19th century. I think it sounds a lot friendlier than a policeman!

Interesting. It does sound friendlier

Hey - thanks for the prize and for the cool contest! I did power up on Power Up day btw (of course!)

I've never been in the Leicester Square Lego shop because of the queue for it - but it does look really good from your pictures so maybe I'll go there on a weekday!

I love lego (also.. of course!)

I'm sorry, you didn't win this time @tdctunes 🙃

Definitely go to the Lego shop on a weekday. I was at Leicester Square again today, and despite the rain, there was a long queue again!!!!

Love the LEGO store there! It’s kind of funny, you can’t get into one in Boston unless you have a kid with you. Seems a bit extreme but I guess it’s good for the parents to know there aren’t creeps going in.

The detail on these and other professionally built LEGO stuff is insane! I love seeing things like Big Ben and the map on the wall. They did a great job locally here in Boston recreating iconic things for us like the skyline and Fenway park baseball park. Would be a lot of fun doing these massive LEGO projects for a week or two at these locations lol

Not letting people in without a kid is a bit too much!!! A lot of grown ups love Lego as well, plus what if a dad wanted to buy a surprise present for his kid? That sounds kinda odd ....

I hear Lego has these certified Lego builders, and there are only a handful of them in the world who build all sorts of amazing creations. Fancy a new career? 😃

I'm really amazed by Lego. They have shifted from a kids toy into such a giant thing, and even more for adults then kids these days with their expensive art sets and so on. These stores are more experience than shopping.

Great photos of the place!

The sets are so expensive nowadays its really too extravagant as a kiddies toy, but got to give credit to Lego for successfully expanding into the adults market.

It is always fascinating to read your posts. @livinguktaiwan

Childish at all, you behaved at the height in front of the camera, sitting quietly next to those two gentlemen, I would have given kisses to both of them, and even driven the train but I could not, it was closed to those who thought like me.

What wonderful things to see and play with, I always ask myself the same question, how long would it take to create everything, I guess it takes less time in a team, they have to put it together as a group.

I tell you that what I feel when I enter a place like this is to disassemble everything, destroy it to assemble it myself, I get anxious, something strange happens to me.

As for your riddle I missed it, for lack of internet I have done magic to be able to publish, I was going to lose because I have seen those sinks but I didn't know they were dryers too, I am curious I will have to go to the mall to check it out. Thanks for so much fun in one post.

I can imagine that it would be so much fun to go in and knock everything down, especially if you're in a bad mood and need to take it out on something or someone 😀

Hope things are well your end and you are getting ready for Christmas

I'm actually kind of a Grinch, I don't like it because it's the time when I work the most, my family likes to see the decorations but no one cooperates.

So I'm on a sit down strike, thanks I hope you are enjoying Christmas too.

That store is heaven for someone who loves Legos, and I love them, hehe. I've been to some cool Lego stores in the States, but none as cool as this one.
Thank you for the contest, and congratulations to all the winners.
Cheers!
