Braaied Garlic Steak Panini Roll

Ever been to South Africa and spent time with the people of my home country?
If so, you'll know all about Sunny Skies, Rugby, Braaivleis and Boerewors.

Sunny skies we see all year round.

This was when we visited Arniston in the Cape just before Covid hit South Africa.

Rugby is a winter's sport where gentlemen become ruffians on the sport field, and when the skies are sunny and there's a rugby game on the telly, everyone starts planning a Braai get together, something we could not do for a very long time. In fact, the Braais are now smaller with just very close friends or family.

Braai & Braaivleis I hear some ask, and Boerewors?

Braai = BBQ
Every man thinks only he knows how to make the best fire!

Braaivleis = BBQ Meat

Tenderised Steak marinated in Garlic, Lemon juice, Worcestershire Sauce & Balsamic Vinegar

Boerewors = Farmers' Sausage
A thick sausage stuffed mainly with a mixture of ground Beef, some fatty Pork and rich notes of Cloves, crushed dried Coriander seeds, Nutmeg and crushed Black Pepper.

Everyone knows when someone in the neighbourhood is having a Braai as the smoky aroma from the Braaivleis and Boerewors wafts through the air.

I showed you how to make a Boerie Roll in March, but today I will be showing you how to make a Garlic Steak Panini Roll with a Sweet Basil, Tomato & Onion Sauce.

Tenderised Steak and Boerewors braaied perfectly or so the man will say who did the braai-ing ;) with a Garlic Panini Roll waiting to be filled.
This was good though I must admit!

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, wifey is making the Sweet Basil, Tomato & Onion Sauce.

Onions & Garlic sauteed in a little oil, diced Tomatoes added, a little brown Sugar, Salt & Pepper and lastly diced fresh sweet Basil leaves and a green chili if you enjoy a spicy touch. Cook covered over a low heat till done.

Slice a slit in Panini Roll, but not all the way, fill with steak and sauce.

Saucy, Meaty, Garlicky Deliciousness!
