Embracing Life's Seasons

The old cliché "Laughter is the best medicine" is so very true!

Aches and pains disappear, both physically and in matters of the heart.

Our lives are just like seasons, ranging from sunny warm days to cold, dark winters. We must embrace and accept each season, just like the flowers of the fields.

The sunflower holds its head up high, facing the sun. However, as it starts wilting, not in vain though, the back of the flower head turns brown. Just when one thinks there's nothing left, the seeds show their beauty – plump and ready to burst. Now is the time to harvest, and of course, there are many uses for these black and white-coloured seeds.

We recently had to trim some tree branches overhanging the roof, and although the ends look really ugly, leaves are already starting to grow back.

A 50-foot-high tree in Wales was damaged by a storm and had to be cut down. What happened to this old storm-battered giant of the woods? A chainsaw sculptor carved the end of the branch into a hand, as if it's reaching for the sky. It's simply stunning and something I would dearly love to see the Giant Hand of Vyrnwy with my own eyes!

Even though we feel all is lost and we'll never be able to stand up again, remember the sunflower, and that giant tree. Hold your head up high, allow yourself to wilt, but don't forget to reach up to the sky.

Rewrite that bucket list, and start ticking them off, way more valuable than any grief counseling, I believe!

Going through old photos, and birthday cards – remember those? Old theater programs, and wedding invitations – all brought back awesome memories. I had to brush away a tear every so often, but also had a couple of good chuckles, remembering funny incidents, the kids' funny drawings of Ouma and Oupa, as well as Dad and Mom – all very special.

I will have to scan them all; some of the pages have yellowed quite a bit!

I am so thankful that I have these stored in a box overflowing with memories, both happy and sad, but I hold onto those with happy, smiling faces, and look forward to storing them here on Hive, forever!

Hey! Yes, the sunflower is a regenerable example of strength. One thing I didn't ticked off in time was making a picture of my life companion in a land of sunflowers with a nice hat on...I was bad...and I still feel bad after 4 years...Thank you for this great reminder, Lizelle!

Sorry to ask, but it sounds like you lost your life companion 4 years ago?
I am so sorry if this is what you're saying, but that image does sound magical.
My little Mom was a very strong woman, and Sunflowers were her absolute favourite!

Hi Lizelle. Thanks for asking. No, I hadn't lost her. The relationship changed a lot since then and I can say, in some way, that I lost her since then. She lost a lot of interest in me by now. I am happy to know your mom was a strong woman and she seem to have had a great light of beauty inside her.

At least we have that to look forward to, but it still doesn't take away the hurt and the immense loss.

It's good you are not holding up the bad moments because they won't make you feel better. I love the sun flower, it is truly a representation of what a sun flower is because it looks so beautiful

Wow that tree hand is fantastic! I thought of Walking through the woods on a foggy day, Not knowing about the tree and suddenly see the hand out from fog. 😯

Box of memories held carefully here as well, I think it a treasure trove to go through every so often. Looking back and forward is healthy, never forgetting where we have come from and where we would like to go....

Wishing you a wonderful week leading up to Christmas!

So very true:

Looking back and forward is healthy, never forgetting where we have come from and where we would like to go....

Hive is the perfect place to store those memories, I still need to go through a ton of stuff I'd like to be stored here forever.
My son will be down from Joburg this coming weekend, so I'm looking forward to that, thank you Joan.
Wishing you the same xxx

Full family once again, son back from NZ with one possible offer coming through in the new year, wait and see what happens with bated breath.

Younger is moving up your way with now being employed after too many years looking, shorter travel distance, dangerous travel on roads up from here to there daily.

Have a wonderful time with your son for the weekend.
