The Merry Month of May that we were hoping for, did not materialize, as we once again faced flooding and mudslides in our Ethekwini Metro, a mere five weeks after that devastating night in April.

The experts call these storms 200-year floods, the worst flooding in living memory here in our region!

Life once again came to a standstill, as many more roads collapsed, and stores and businesses closed as staff could not get to their workplace. A large vehicle manufacturer will likely lose as many as 45 000 units still in production!

Many companies have laid off staff while temporary staff simply do not get paid, so the economic effect is being felt in many sectors and households.

Personally, although we suffered no real damage to our property, my BnB calendar for the month of June is looking rather empty, but I know from experience ever since the mismanagement of Covid with lockdowns, how the BnB scenario changed. Leisure guests are still afraid to plan ahead, especially now after the storms, but we are still hosting more business guests, many of who book at the last minute as they wait for the go-ahead of projects, so by month-end, the calendar will be filled to the brim again!

Our insurance this time came to the party, and paid for booking cancelations as well as for our fence that is slightly leaning into the property of the neighbour below us, who still blames our water for running downhill to his property!

Ever heard of water running uphill?
He cannot understand that he needs to make provision for stormwater, as we have done; if it were not for that, his property would have suffered much damage!
