How Fragile is Life

avatar

When playing a game of cards, you never know what cards you're going to be dealt.

Sometimes you get a really good hand, and other times a really sh1tty bad one!

Just so is life, there are good times and bad times, and if you're lucky the good outweighs the bad.
I would say my life falls into the latter category as I've had many a trump card coming my way, so have tons to be thankful for. There have been times when I've been dealt a really bad hand; immensely sad times, but I've had to dust myself off and get on with the job of living, a favoured phrase of Mom Lily.

Sh1t Stuff happens and turns our cosy little worlds upside down, it can be in a split second or it can be like cancer, slowly eating away till the day you decide, enough is enough, that it's time to take stock and make the change.

I shared images of Raindrops in the Stock Images Community and spoke of how fragile those raindrops are.
Just a little bump and our world can be shattered.

So, what are my ramblings all about?

We not only need to nurture our loved ones but also need to take care of ourselves, as life itself is equally fragile.
Here is the secret - do not ignore signals from your body that something is wrong, as we often tend to do; a scare I had just this week with hubby who kept on saying he was ok when I saw he was not!
I took the bull by the horns, ignored his excuses, and made the appointment, by which time he realized something was up. He immediately was booked into the hospital, underwent tests and the problem was successfully fixed this afternoon by a delicate procedure, so I am a very thankful woman tonight.
Had I listened to him, he may very well have fallen off the face of the earth.

The lesson is, do NOT ignore when your body tells you something's up!

I feel the same way Lizzie, you must listen to your body. My hubby is like most men, ignore the signs and they will go away. Not so! I guess they are lucky to have us around. Even with Bob's last knee surgery, he was frustrated he wasn't popping back as quickly as he thought he should. He pushed himself hard in physical therapy and then was wondering why he was tired and in pain at the end of the day. Listen to your body, I would say, take a nap, and give your bod a chance to heal.

Now 6 weeks post-surgery, he and I are walking every day, we are up to 3/4 of a mile now. I am so happy for him as he did do a stint in hell for a while.

Nice post, good advice my friend.

So pleased things worked out for your man.
Sending hugs!

Awe thank you for the good wishes @farm-mom, we both got a big fright! He had a triple bypass 20 yrs ago but the symptoms were different so Mr. 'Doctor' kept on making his own diagnosis! Thankfully there was only one critical blockage and they could sort it by putting in a stent during the angiogram, so no bypass needed! It caused massive fluid build-up on the lungs.
I can imagine the pain Bob went through, but very happy to hear he's recovered so well and is going for walks again. Pity it's winter now!
Yes, he must listen to his body and not over-exert himself AND not do strenuous things, don't want to undo all the good work of the surgeons.
Thankful is how I feel🙏
PS Thank you so much for the tip💕

Hi Lizzie I'm glad your husband is doing well. I had my own dose of being saved by not ignoring those signs last weekend. Let's see if I get a chance tomorrow to share my experience.
Sending you a big hug 🤗

I was shocked to hear that you also had the same health scare! You're both too precious to run away yet, you still have tons of work to do here🙏
I'm sure your son must have gotten such a scare, being away from home.
Hubby was making all kinds of diagnosis but the symptoms pointed to only 1 thing, just the coughing at night confused us.
Take good care of yourself Eli, we only have one life❤️

Thank you Fiona, it's been going on for a couple of weeks now, making all kinds of excuses but then it got really bad over the weekend with fluid build-up in the lungs & getting chest pain during hardly any exertion! He had an appointment for a checkup on the 8th only, but our GP arranged his admittance through the cardio. I could have called my nephew but he's constantly faced with trauma in the ER, so I don't like troubling him, even though I know he won't mind.
We really need to listen when our body tells us something is wrong!
Take care of yourself too, and don't work too hard, give yourself a break💕

I am so glad it's resolved itself. I'm sure he's (and you!) are feeling better now!

I am so planning a break in February/March. Not only is it my birthday, but we have a wedding - in Cape Town. I'm trying to get my head around that all! Right now, I'm more than grateful for paying work and the prospects of more.

Life is sure full of surprises, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The secret really is the bounce ..... our ability to bounce back from the bad surprise and keep on keeping on. Much easier to say sometimes than to do, but we simply must find our way forward.

Glad you notice your hubby had an issue and didn't go along. Glad all turned out well.

I really like that, wise words and something I will remember when the going gets tough. Thank you @jacey.boldart :)

I believe in signs and in the synchronization of the universe, cause and effect, so reading your publication is not mere chance.

For days now my body has been giving those signals, but there are so many in different parts that I don't know where to start, I will take the bull by the horns and go to the doctor.

I am glad that your husband is well, and that you have not listened to him.

I take this opportunity to congratulate you on the soccer pool, you have done a good job. I hope she makes it to the end as the female soccer representation of hive. @lizelle 🤗

I hope you're ok and have indeed been to the doctor @soyunasantacruz, hubby is doing very well, just tired but that is natural after them digging inside one's arteries not so!
Oh dear, I've been falling from grace as far as the football goes, it's been totally crazy results. Hoping to do a little better now in the knock-outs, but you never know! I actually have been thinking i should have chosen anything but the favourites with many of the matches ;)

Yes, it is normal for your husband to feel tired. I went to the doctor and my blood pressure was very high and I have to have it checked.

In soccer I'm going for position 200 🤣 for following the favorites, this world cup has given many surprises. Hopefully we can make it to the top 50, although in my case I doubt it. @lizelle 🥰🤗

(Edited)

I went from number 10 all the way down to 95, so I'm sulking now. Think I must rather stick to the kitchen pots, at least I know what the outcome will be if I follow the trusted recipes!
The football players have really been teasing us...hehehe...
Hope they sort your BP out @soyunasantacruz xxx

Human beings are fragile, but when we haven't had a bad run we believe we are invincible until life teaches us a lesson.

@lizelle Thank God that you decided to take the initiative to go to the doctor, and thank God also because everything went well for your husband.

I am also truly thankful that I was firm with him, otherwise, the outcome could have been way different. I think God was nudging me there and steering me in the right direction.
Thank you for the well wishes @mjvdc

Beautiful 😊!! It is immensely important to have a good perspective and stay in gratitude... yet sometimes we ignore the signs our bodies or minds are giving us in this endeavor. I am glad you could be there to give your friend a much-needed nudge to seek care! Thank you for sharing your wisdom 🤗

Those are definitely words to the wise, @lizelle! It's great that you were persistent. Some people just do not want to address a potential health issue until they have to. They might hope it's just their imagination or that it will go away on its own. But sometimes waiting can be a dire choice. I'm so glad your husband is going to be okay!

I often tend to be guilty of ignoring signs and trying to self-diagnose and self-medicate, and when I end up at the doc, I always scold myself for being so stubborn!
Thank you for your sincere wishes @jayna

When playing a game of cards, you never know what cards you're going to be dealt.

And sometimes this randomness makes the life good. For example when you make a CQ (general call) on amateur radio, you never know who will answer it. It is a complete surprise. And amongst other things, this is what I love in amateur radio.

That must be a really nice hobby @xplosive, and you're right, it's the randomness that makes life good, and often there are lessons to be learned from this randomness! Enjoy the new experiences across the airwaves :)

That must be a really nice hobby

It is. Especially the higher bands (above 10 MHz) has frequent surprises. For example sometimes you can talk to certain stations only for a few minutes, and then they disappear because of the changing propagation. The signal strength can often change rapidly. Sometimes you hear one station weakly in one minute, while you hear it strong in the other minute. Above 21 MHz the sunspots has a huge effect on the propagation. For example the 28 MHz is open for worldwide contacts during sunspot maximum, while it is seemingly empty during sunspot minimum. There is a 11-year sunspot cycle, so it is different in every year of a decade.

Really that 'stubborn' thing when ignoring signs, getting to recognize not through self-diagnosis and speaking to the doctor, house with males can be difficult, glad you pursued to the end and all went well.

Oh boy, they can be a handful not so Joan! At least I'm down to only one stubborn male in the house as the sons have all fled the nest.
I am so very thankful that I made that appointment, the outcome could have been so different!

I am going to have to take the bull by the horns and make the appointment too.

I'm glad everything went well in the end.

Glad to see that your man is getting better milady.
Marian said now; "You see, please stop always saying that you are fine", but I think that it is a thing with us men to show that we are real men. Very dumb of course, but such is life.
I have also had 3 hosepipes (stents) inserted last month and bled like a pig. So now I am the proud owner of 4 stents.

We really need to listen to our bodies.

That's a good one, he has 1 hosepipe & they managed to blast another one out, but a minor one wouldn't budge, the cardio said it's not an important artery.
Well he had his 'plumbing' fixed 20 yrs ago, a triple bypass but has been well until now.
You men always make excuses AND your own diagnosis!
Please share the following with Marian & take note yourself 😜
