Just a Little Girl
When I was just a little girl of seven and lost my two front teeth, I longed to be grown-up, and could not wait for the day I turned seventeen.
That day arrived, I now was a young girl of seventeen, sporting a shaggy-dog hairstyle, wearing John Lennon glasses, psychedelic or tie-dyed bell-bottoms, and mini-skirts, and my idols were Twiggy, and The Beatles. I worked hard at being groovy baby, no funky boutiques for me, so I had to make my own clothes and became the queen of tie-dyeing, started doing it for my friends as well ;)
I felt I'd become of age, but, still lived under the strict rule of Mom and Dad, with four younger brothers who terrorised each other.
Even though there was much laughter and no lack of love in our home, I longed for freedom, to be a working gal, and make my own way in the world.
Ten years on, at twenty-seven, I'd not only entered the working world, but was married, and already had my two sons, the youngest still a little babe. Life couldn't be better, although I was, and still am, a real mother hen, always anxious about my boys when they were/ are now, out of sight!
As time went on, the goalposts of being OLD kept on changing.
As someone said:
The older you get, the older, old, becomes!

In my mind's eye, I'm still young, although the mirror tells a different story, and neither am I 'knocking on heaven's door' just yet!
My days are busier than ever before, in fact, there are not enough hours in the day to do the things I set out to do; it's almost as if I'm trying to squeeze out as much as I can of each day.
Now that I've reached the big seventy, I look back and realize how we wish our lives away - when we're young, we long to be older, and when old, we want to be a little kid of seven again!
Why not just embrace whatever phase of life we are in, and live in the moment?
Time waits for no one, so make the most of every day!

Full of vitality and vivacious are the two words (well, four words, really) that spring to mind reading this. Squeeze out as much as you can from each day, I think you're onto the right path there, my friend. <3
100%. Much love <3
Thank you my young friend, you are a very special soul, and I'm sure you've already learnt that lesson!
Have a great week @honeydue 💖
Really enjoyed reading this and needed it. It was at just the right time. Lately I have spent some time thinking about life when I was younger and what I would give to be young again. Then I look forward and wonder what life will be like as I get older and worry about the future. I just need to enjoy the present more.
That's it @coinjoe! Worrying comes naturally to most of us, but each minute we worry, is time wasted, a pointless exercise, so we need to stop those thoughts and get on with living life.
Have a great week!
I wouldn't want to be seven again but I wouldn't mind a second round of my thirties :)
One thing is for sure, you are as young as you feel!
LOL, you'll need a time machine hey, those must have been the best years of your life! Time to build new ones not so @fotostef 😉
When I was young people asked me what's your biggest dream to be.
When I am grown. NOW I know the answer. I WANT TO BE A Child AGAIN.
I read these lines somewhere. They are soooo true.
It is the irony of the man that we want to keep on chasing something that is not with us at the moment, and in this race we forget to appreciate the things we have right now
That is so very true @amberkashif, we do forget so easily. Similarly we always think the grass is greener on the other side!
The irony of mankind
You are right Lizzie, we have to live in the moment. And I also feel like you that now I am busier than ever and that I don't have enough time for everything I want to do.
I love that portrait of the young Lizzie 😍
As I look back across my years what you say is so true about wishing time away. I just celebrated my 52nd and can hardly believe all that time has passed.
My personal approach to "staying young" is to keep moving, to keep learning, and make an effort to keep a positive mindset (and protect that peace at all cost). I find that last one isn't always easy. There are so many individuals who try to spew their negativity or draw you into their drama. It takes constant effort.
