The never-ending Canal

I had not listened again!

As willing as a lamb to the slaughter, I sat down in the dentist's chair, not knowing what was to come.

My dentist is the most amazing man, gentle and kind, loves chatting before and while working on my teeth. I generally suffer from verbal diarrhea, but when my mouth is stretched wide open and he has drills and bits inside, and his assistant is sucking up all kinds of fluids that come from heaven alone knows where, there's no way I can respond. Nodding also is out of the question!

So this Thursday my jovial dentist was kind of serious, looking very concerned, and I knew something was up.

I need a Crown, not for my Coronation, nope, royalty I am not!
A bigger smile I will have after the procedure, in more ways than one, as I thought I was only going for an impression, but it was not to be!

Root Canal Treatment

He went to great lengths to explain the procedure and show me x-rays of my current crowns and the deep-rooted canals, telling me it may take a little longer, as the canals narrow as one ages matures.

He really should have just said nothing and I would have been none the wiser, as those images of the long canals and the thought of him having to dig that deep to find the never-ending root canal was enough to make me want to escape out of that chair!

But, I'm, a big girl now, so stayed calm, on the outside, but inside was a different story, felt like I was going to have a panic attack!
However, I really did not want to unnerve this very kind man so I closed my eyes and went into meditation mode.

It really worked but then I needed a loo-break halfway through, as I'd swallowed my daily overdose of supplements our son ordered with two tall glasses of water, just before I left home.

Fortunately, my dentist moved his consulting room to his private home once the Covid lockdown ended, so I was spared any loss of dignity when I had to waltz to the loo in my gown and disposable surgical hat, as there was no one to stare at this apparition :)

I actually think he heaved a sigh of relief, as he must have been getting a bit claustrophobic trying to get into this narrow canal, and needed to come up for fresh air ;)

Anyhooo, I survived.

Hubby had itchy feet and wanted to take a drive again! He must be trying to make up for lost time!

So I half-heartedly agreed to go for a drive up to @artywink & her hubs.
Halfway there, the anaesthetic started wearing off, and I felt really sorry for myself, but suffered in silence!

Our friends hopped into the car, and off we drove, starving by now, trying to find a place where they served decent pasta, as all I am eating, for now, is soft food.

The trip was starting to look like a neverending journey as hubby drove further up and down the hills looking for a place someone recommended, but when we got there, they were permanently closed.

I was beginning to think he was trying to head all the way across Africa, but felt too miserable to do a Google search, so we ended up at a place called La Hacienda.

Gosh, had we driven all the way across the Suez Canal (can that be done?), and landed somewhere in Spain???

No such luck, we were still in South Africa, they were without power - courtesy of our famous load-shedding - and could only serve fried foods, which was a no-go. A sore jaw and a temporary filling plus crispy fries was a recipe for disaster!
The garden was pretty, but we all needed food, and I was the wet blanket!
I carried my water bottle in the car, swallowed some paracetamol, and put on a brave face.

So off we went again, driving down the twisting hills, back to familiar territory, and ended up at the very pretty Stonehouse Garden Shop & Cafe, overlooking the Valley of a 1000 Hills, an old favourite that I told you about sometime back.

No soft foods like pasta on the menu, but Mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce served on Ciabatta bread was the best choice, naturally I did not touch the bread.
A tall ice-cold decadent Cappuccino Milkshake was just what the doctor ordered, to soothe the pain somewhat.

And so ended my day after the dentist drilled nearly all the way to the Suez Canal, in preparation for The Crown.

Aha, putting yourself into meditative zone trying to mentally escape the room, bum cheeks do the waltz in the chair with a dentist peering down into your throat. Oh dear hope it wasn't too painful!

I laughed a lot reading your trip to the country of the Suez Canal even if I sympathize, I hate the dentist and have panic attacks there! that said, once you have a tooth to chew on, you're still very happy

I can't wait for that tooth, this temporary filling is not looking very good or secure, I may just end up swallowing it :)
It's back to the Throne dentist's chair tomorrow, but at least the worst part is over ;)
I hope you're having a great Sunday @bnbsc!

I don't know what the expression is to say: hope everything goes well, here we say "fingers crossed" :) Quiet Sunday, it feels good, thank you ;)

Going back this morning for the next episode, but at least the canal job is almost complete.
I'm sooo tired of soft foods, but it's not been too bad.
Have a great week @owasco 🤗

Oh dear Lizelle, going to the dentist is not easy for me, just listening to the noise of the drill they use is chilling. Good thing the doctor helped you and then you were rewarded with that tasty Cappuccino Milkshake

I'd forgotten how long root treatment takes, and just like you, the sound of that drill is chilling indeed. I must say though that my dentist is very empathic so I've never been afraid, just this root canal on my old teeth was a bit hectic but not so bad in the end. At least I know the job's been done properly😉

🤗I'm glad everything went well; I remember that a doctor who treated me the other time broke my lipstick.🤣

I get chills just thinking about the dentist, and even more at the thought of a root canal.
I hope your tooth is no longer bothering you.
And may all go well with the crowning 😉🤗

Funny it was just sore that first day, just a bit of swelling and discomfort in my jaw. I had the second stage done yesterday so hope to be crowned soon😅
Thank you Eli, it's always lovely seeing you here🤗
