The Winds of August

How life has changed ever since the horrid little virus with all its progenies showed up.

If anyone had told me five years ago that we'd all be walking around with masks if we went to public places, I'd have laughed and said that person had a wild imagination.

Now that we can walk around maskless, I find myself feeling kind of naked, and keep on forgetting to put on the darned lipstick!

Some guys are missing those masks as it hid the stubbles, especially the grey ones!

So...I thought I'd take a look at my image gallery and see what I was doing on this day, 24 August, the past couple of years.

No surprise that I stumbled on plenty of food as I was actively writing food blogs at the time; Mom Lily was still able and independent so I had plenty of time on my hands.

Apple roses made with pastry and apple slices for the awesome #cookwithus contest where I made a number of friends, some who I still see here on Hive.

How I'd love a couple of these right now so I will definitely be making it this week; my most favourite crumble tart turned into fruity crumble bars filled with boozy raisins, dates, blueberry, apricot and strawberry jam, made for #fruitsandveggiesmonday.

I was still recovering from the shock of our BnB coming to a standstill and remaining empty for just over two months, a really trying time, but we took a drive to Nagle Dam, just over half an hour's drive from us. This dam supplies most of Durban's water. The men were fishing at this picturesque serene dam. Nothing was caught that day, even the fish went into hiding!

I was chasing butterflies, this beautiful Blue-spotted Charaxes Butterfly caught my eye, making me run after him and made me feel quite envious, if only I could be as free as that and fly wherever the winds took me!

Today 24 August 2022

Life has changed in a big way here; one can see how my focus changed over the years - carefree and playing in my kitchen while Mom was still mobile, but as her health deteriorated, that hobby took a backseat. I'm only now getting my breath back and starting to play again in my favourite playground, the kitchen, so will be sharing more of that once again!
We're still recovering from the flood damage but at least there is progress!

My most favourite breadboard, very cleverly designed to not mess breadcrumbs everywhere, more food for the two little wagtails that come shouting for their food at my kitchen door every morning!

What a lovely reflective heart warming exercise of what was @lizelle. I find photos trigger memories for me too, your foodie shots make my mouth water. If I lived closer you might find me knocking on your door for a cuppa. 😋
One of my sisters has her birthday on the 24 August.

Awe thank you @angiemitchell, it would be such a treat having tea with you!
Yes, we are so fortunate to be able to find photos so easily, they can't fade or discolor & certainly bring good memories.
I hope your sister had a good birthday 🤗
