THE BEAUTY OF SIMPLICITY •//• Letting Go to Find What Truly Matters

When I was younger I found it quite hard to understand the concept of minimalism, I have always asked myself, “What is the benefit of not wanting more? Why be minimal when you can be maximal?”. The concept of “less is more” is always like a joke to me. I mean; it is quite obvious that ‘more is more’ and ‘less is less’.

Minimalism wasn’t something I magically pursued, but it took time to understand. It was a process, I learnt and understood, and that is why I continually pursue minimalism. What inspires me to continue in the pursuit of minimalism is the simplicity that comes with it.

Funny how I planned a lot for myself in my head for when I would grow up, how I would have a lot of possessions that would make me happy. I used to believe that more possessions bring about happiness. I would fantasize about how many possessions I must get, but little did I know that happiness barely comes from possessions.

Growing up, I can now see that the world moves so fast that it is very draining to keep up. I mean we often find ourselves distracted here and there and it is quite hard to find a value with “more”. Simplicity doesn’t only come with happiness but it also points out importance.

Having ‘less’ gives a sense of clarity in today’s world. When one can’t find value it only leads to confusion that can make one too open to a lot of unnecessary things even things that would affect our mental health.

Having a lot of possessions, just simply means having a lot on my shoulders which blinds me from seeing the most important things and it is always so difficult for me to be grateful but easier for me to worry.

There is peace in gratitude, but you can truly be grateful for what you have when you are not overwhelmed by excess materials. There are a lot of possessions that we might have hanging around and we don’t see the value. it is just better to let go either by giving it to those that would value it and would be grateful for it.

The pursuit of perfection is tiresome in today’s world, where we endlessly gather in search of a perfection that we will never truly find. It only brings about stress, anxiety, and more stress and life is too short for that.

I lost a friend of mine on, the 29th of August 2023, it struck me hard and brought tears to my eyes. It was something I didn’t want to believe. I asked myself “Is it worth the stress and anxiety? Why not focus on what truly matters and let go of the excess that might weigh you?”

There is this feeling of peace and contentment that comes with keeping it simple. It doesn’t just give you calmness but it also leaves a positive impact on others and the environment.

Minimalism helps me discover who I am and what I truly value.

Relax, take a deep breath, live in the moment, focus, and value what truly needs to be valued.

After all “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
