Sticky Rice With Coconut Milk and Ginger

Hello everyone π€ Today's snacks menu craved me for my favorite Puto Maya or Sticky Rice With Coconut Milk and Ginger. I used to make this popular snacks early in the morning. I loved how this chewy snacks deliciously served and paired with our famous sikwate or hot choco.
Here are the basic things I've prepared to cook this simple morning merienda

3 cups of glutinous rice
400 g or coconut milk / fresh
1 ounce of strips of ginger
2 tsp of salt
3 tablespoon of white sugar (adjust if you want it a little sweeter)
Here are the procedures to follow:
Soaked glutinous rice overnight or 2-3 hours to soften grains and so that it can be easily cooked.
Pour water on it enough to cover the rice. Set it aside and wait until a few hours.

Washed the glutinous rice thoroughly over a running water to remove it's impurities.

After its thoroughly washed drained the excess water.

Prepare to steam the rice by boiling some water. Once it's boiled, steamed the glutinous rice for 40 minutes or half cooked.

You can line banana leaves on the steamer if it's available in your place.

Check if it's cooked. Once it's done.Start preparing the coconut milk mixture of. In a bowl, placed the milk, sugar, and salt and the ginger. Mix it well.

I transfer it to a bigger mixing bowl to comfortably mixed all the ingredients.

Make sure all the glutinous rice will be soaked together with the milk mixture. Once it's milk mixture is fully absorbed prepare to steam again for atleast 20 minutes to fully cooked the glutinous rice.

Check the consistency of the rice if it's cooked. The rice is soft and tender and it's already sticky.

And when it's done be ready to serve it on a plate and best paired with hot choco or milk. Mangoes can be a good side dish too with this type of merienda.

This would be all for now and see you in my next cooking blog journey..Byeπ€π

Wow, this looks very delicious and nakakagutom! π I really enjoyed reading your cooking blog. Puto Maya is one of Pinoy's favorite Filipino merienda because it is soft, sticky, and very tasty. The combination of coconut milk and ginger gives it a unique flavor. I also like how you explained the cooking process step by step. Ang sipag talaga ng Sissy na yarn! It is easy to follow, especially for beginners who want to try making it at home. The final result looks so appetizing and perfect for breakfast or afternoon snack. I agree that it is best paired with hot sikwate or choco drink. Ang sarap siguro nito habang mainit pa. The banana leaves also add a nice traditional touch to the dish. I would love to try this with ripe mangoes on the side someday. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe and your cooking journey, Sissy. Nakaka-inspire magluto after reading your post. Keep sharing your delicious food creations. Have a great day and happy cooking! π€π
