Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Battle Challenge! (Even Stevens)

eq_banner.png

I love the idea that the Weekly Battle Challenge changed instead of featuring a monster to represent a ruleset. It is so good to do something different than usual and I hope they will continually do this in the future. The best way would be to mix these challenges, so every week would be more interesting.

This week we need to show a ruleset, which is the Even Stevens and the way I used it to my (dis)advantage in the Battle I played. 😇

My only problem with this new system is that it is very difficult to do battles with the specific ruleset featured for the week challenge, because it is random what you are going to get and even if you have that ruleset you need to win it somehow, which is not always easy. Luckily the Splinterlands curators are quite forgiving and I can write about any other ruleset if there is none in my disposal at hand! 😇

Only units with even mana costs may be used.image.png
There are no special tricks for this ruleset, but having an idea of mana points of a few monsters helps in predicting what your opponent can and cannot use. This rule does not apply to summoners.

This ruleset is essentially halves your pool of monsters and it will make much more difficult to assemble a team. You need to make sure that you are using a Summoner who has the best even mana cost monsters. For me the Dragons and the Earth are one of those, but with the Dragons you always have the opportunity to choose any other Splinter with them.

RulesetDescription
AimlessAll Monsters have the Scattershot ability.
Silenced SummonersSummoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities.
Even StevensOnly Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles.

This battle mana cap was 56, which is makes it much easier to setup a team, because my favorite Splinter the Dragons were available. There was only the Fire Splinter next to it, so I had to plan carefully because my opponent will bring the same Splinters.

There was no ability for the Summoners, so it was much easier to choose them and I had to make sure to choose the lowest mana cost of them.

The Aimless ruleset will makes this game pretty unpredictable, because all the monster's on the battlefield will attack a random enemy target, but only if they are able to attack from the backline. 😋

My lineup and the decision behind it!

Summoner
Quix the Devious

image.png

Currently Quix The Devious is one of the budget version of Dragon Summoner amongst the other Summoners that I could rent and because he removes one Ranged attack and Health from all of my opponent's monsters he is pretty strong compare to his rented cost. Unfortunately in the Silenced Summoners ruleset his abilites are pretty useless, but his 4 mana cost is still good to use him in my battle. 🤗

Main Tank
Djinn Chwala

image.png

The Djinn Chwala cost 8 mana, which is perfect for the Even Stevens ruleset. Apart from that he has huge Health to survive as long as possible and the Thorns ability will make hard to any enemy Melee attack creature to damage him without a retribution. With the help of his Enrage ability he will receive a nice buff to all of his stats when he is damaged. 😊

Reach Stunner
Twilight Basilisk

image.png

The Twilight Basilisk is a previous set of reward card just like the Djinn Chwala, so it is easy and cheap to acquire if you want to own few copies of him. He has two very important abilities, which is Reach, which will allow the Basilisk to attack from the second position and the other is the Stun, which means when this monster hits his target, it has a chance to stun that target causing it to skip its next turn.

The only bad thing is that the trigger chance is a random 50 percent for the Stun, so it is based heavily on luck. 🍀

Off-Tank with Close Range
Molten Ash Golem

image.png

I used the Molten Ash Golem in this battle, because he has huge Health, which gives time to my team to get rid of their backline quicker. The Close Range ability allows him to perform ranged attacks from the first position in case he fell into that.

He also has the Weaken ability, which will reduce the Health of all the enemy monsters by one as long as he lives. 😎

Damage Dealer with Blast
Chaos Dragon

image.png

The Chaos Dragon is a monster that I never leave out from any of my battles. He is expensive that's right, but his abilities and body with huge Health is something that you can't ignore. This creature has Scattershot on its own, which means when he attacks his target will be random, so you can't hide behind the tank and to make it worse he will attack with a Blast ability, which will do an additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. His third ability is Blind (All enemy Melee & Ranged attacks have an increased chance of missing their target.), which comes handy to protect my team against Melee and Ranged attacks. 😁

Protector and Meatshield
Ferox Defender

image.png

The Ferox Defender is one of the new soulbound monster and I used him simly because he ahs the Protect ability, which will provide +2 Armor to all of his friendly monsters. This is very good, because all the monsters will attack randomly on the battlefield, so the +2 Armor will make a huge difference. Unfortunately he can not attack from the back being a Melee monster, but at least he has a decent Health and Armor, so he is able to soak up a lot of incoming damage. 😉

Damage Dealer and Speed buffer
Countess Shinash

image.png

The Countess Shinash is everything a Ranger should be. She is fast and has high damage output with a lot of useful abilites. The most important ability she has are the Opportunity, which means that she can attack from any position (melee also attacks) and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health. 😊

On Level 2 she receives the Swiftness ability, which will increase the speed to all of her friendly Monsters. She is a truly amazing and undervalued monster, because sometimes she would need some protection, because she doesn't have too much Health. 😏

On the third Level she acquires the Affliciton ability, which means when she hit his target, it has a chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.

My opponent had to choose the same Summoner like me, but as you can see he did not rent any of the amazing Fire monsters, so he had to choose only from the Neutral and Dragon monsters. 😋

He also brought a Speed and Protect buffer for his team, but they are much weaker than my monsters.

In the first round not much happened apart from the fact that his backline suffered a major damage from my Chaos Dragon and his Blast ability. 😁

In the second round the Chaos Dragon made a double kill with his Blast damage killing his last two monsters. My opponent idea was to dodge as much as he can with his Speed buffed Naga, but he is completely useless against my Magic damage. 😊

His tank and off-tank also died after that and his remaining two monsters were unable to save the day and his total of 5 Health were against my 31 all together, so that acquired the Victory for me. 🎉
