Lore

The Chaos Legionnaires are ruthless warriors and the Chaos Legion's elite fighting force. Alvar Veralyn was conscripted into their ranks at a young age after his family was slain and his world conquered by the Chaos Legion. The harsh conditioning that all conscripts receive nearly broke the child, but in the end, his old, easy way of life was subsumed by the desire for battle and conquest. Alvar dedicated himself to his training, intent on reshaping his mind and his body until he had no equal on the battlefield. Eventually, he rose to the rank of General and now stands as leader of the Chaos Legionnaires.

Alvar is a most imposing sight on the battlefield. His armor is imbued to withstand the strongest of magical attacks, and even the mightiest of foes is no match for his massive, two-handed sword, which some say was forged in the Realm of Nightmare. He lives for battle, wading through his enemies and striking them down as he seeks out the strongest among them to engage in single combat. He enjoys nothing more than watching the life fade from his opponent's eyes. His conquests are legendary even among the Legionnaires, and he earned the title of Godkiller after the Battle of Dargnilat, during which he single-handedly defeated one of the Old Gods.

Overview

The Legionnaire Alvare is a Neutral card, which means that he is always playable with any Splinter. He is a very good card especially in higher levels, where he gets more abilities. I like him a lot, because it allows me to use different tactics and de-buffing my opponent is quite strong. 😁

Stats and abilities

image.png

LevelAbilityDescription
Level.1Void ArmorMagic attacks hit this Monster's armor before its Health.
Level.2Giant KillerDoes double damage against targets that cost 10 or more mana.
Level.3DemoralizeReduces the Melee attack of all enemy Monsters.
Level.4Death BlowThis Monster does 2x damage if their target is the only Monster left on the enemy team.

The Legionnaire Alvar is a Legendary monster and such he get abilities on all of his higher Levels. The first on is Void Armor, which comes very handy against magic attack creatures, because they can't ignore his Armor.

On his second Level he gets the Giant Killer ability, which is very good against huge mana cost monsters and allowing him to deal significant damage against them.

Usually I rent him for Gold League, which means that he is Level 3 on that. I won many battles, because I brought him and his Demoralize ability ro reduce the melee attack of my opponent monsters by one, two or even three, with some help from the Disintegrator and Harklaw. 😁

I never used him on Level 4 to have a big opinion on his Deathblow ability, but it doesn't look so strong on paper. 😕

Market price for the Legionnaire Alvar

image.png

If you are going to burn and delete from the existence this LEGENDARY card, it will yield 500 DEC if it is a regular card and 12,500 DEC if it was a gold card. None of the gold cards were burned until today!

This card is an LEGENDARY card and it is part of the Chaos Legion set. One BCX of this card cost around 4,36 USD, so if you want a maximum level of this monster it will set you back with around 47,96 USD, which is a nice cost for a mexed Level of Legendary. 😏

The price of the Legionnaire Alvar started to gain momentum upwards, but it was roughly on the same level of value in the last 3 months.

The upcoming Battle ruleset

image.png

RulesetDescription
Melee MayhemMelee attack Monsters can attack from any position.
Broken ArrowsRanged attack Monsters may not be used in battles.

I had a mana cap of 99, which is my favorite, because it allows me to use any monster within my team without any limitation. One of the ruleset banned all of our ranged monsters, but that helped me lot to decide to bring the Legionnaire Alvar, because he is kinda protected against mages and he is able to de-buff the enemy melee monsters. 😁

My lineup

image.png
Quix The Devious decreases the ranged and speed stats of all the enemy monsters by one. The ranged de-buff is pretty useless here, because the ruleset bans all of them, but Quix is a Dragon sumoner and such I can use the power of the Dragon monsters, which is the strongest currently in the game. 😁
The Chain Golem as I said many times before is the best tank in the game (at least for me), because he has the abilities to halves all of the incoming damage targeting him. If you have some heal to support him he will be unkillable. 😉
image.png
image.png
The Carnage Titan is an amazing damage dealer thanks to his Double Strike ability and Reach. (Reach is unusable in this ruleset). The Shield allows him to be an excellent off-tank as well if my main tank would lose his life. 😌
The ruleset banned all the ranged monsters, so it was an easy choice to bring the Djinn Muirat, because two of his ability were a perfect match for this battle. The first is his Giant Killer ability, which will allow him to deal double damage to all enemy monsters over 10 mana cost. (They are common in a 99 mana cap battle 😊). The second ability is his Magic Reflect, because my opponent can choose between melee or magic attack cards only. 😜

image.png
I always use the Legionnaire Alvar in a battle, where the ruleset is Melee Mayhem, because it allows him to attack from any position and if my opponent would bring a lot of melee monsters he will reduce their melee attack by one. 😎
The Harklaw has the Demoralize and Shield ability, which makes him the perfect choice for this ruleset like the Alvar. He is unpoisonable and receives halves damage, so it is a perfect backline protector against Sneak creatures. 😁

image.png
Usually the Cursed Windeku is a front tank for me, but in a 99 mana battle he would be quite weak there, so I have decided to take advantage of his Heal and Thorns abilities and put him at the back of my team. This would allow him to deal damage (Melee Mayhem ruleset) and to reflect two damage back to all of the enemy Sneaker creatures and Heal himself. 😍

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

My strategy was to decrease the melee attack damage of my opponent melee attack creatures, so I brought Alvar and the Harklaw to reduce their attack by two. The best choice would be Camila Sungazer as a Summoner, but I didn't rented her for this battle.

My opponent brought a very solid team with two creature with Double Strike ability, which is quite OP. I used only one, but I tried to use more protection than my opponent, because his Djinn Chwala doesn't have any Shield on him to reduce the incoming damage.😊

image.png

After all the abilities were applied to all the monsters on the battlefield my team looked much better than my opponent team. His strong melee hitters were de-buffed to a point where they can not really scrach my Chain Golem. 🤣

His Mycelic Slipspawn died at the end of the first round, because of his Taunt ability and the enemy monsters couldn't make a huge damage on my team.

In the second round their Djinn Chwala died as he doesn't have any protection and his Carnage Titan took a big hit from my Djinn Muirat's Giant Killer ability. 😇

image.png

In the third round they lost their Carnage Titan and Grund and my tank was still standing at the front of my team. 😁 With the removal of the two Double Striker it was very easy to secure the win for myself. 🎉

Battle Result

image.png

All of the monsters in my team were an essential part to secure the victory, because in a 99 mana cap battle you have the option to bring anything you want, so it is important to pick good quality monsters and try to guess what the opponent might pick. I love to de-buff my opponent monsters that is why I used the Death splinter to mix it with Dragons in order to ruin my opponent's plan. 😇

Do you like the Legionnaire Alvar? Why or why not?

He is a very good card, but only in special circumstances. He is quite expensive and he doesn't have any Shield or Void ability, so whoever is damaging him he will take full damage. The Void Armor helps a bit against the magic attack creatures, but usually I do not use him as a solo tank.

In a fight like this he is an excellent asset and without him I might lose this battle. 🙃
