A wekeend on a Tuesday!

You know what I love? Getting really busy, then doing nothing. And despite being a Tuesday, it felt like the perfect weekend to me! And the best part is, I have this bliss stretching out in front of me for the next 9 days!

It's an ideal weekend (the busy then the nothing), right? But - normally I tend to find my weekends are too busy, not with 'stuff', but with routine. My wife and I are incredibly routined. I can tell you now that every Saturday we go to the grocery store, buy some milk, check out the deli, grab a watermelon, some sneaky chocolate and the weekend papers. We then head home, and around 11 we have lunch and read the papers. We then go for a walk on the beach in the afternoon.

It's relaxing and low stress, and sometimes we mix it up and go crazy and go for a walk in the morning. I know what you're thinking - crazy!

But - now I feel like I'm celebrating a very long weekend - school holidays (ah the benefits of being a school teacher!). When I was a new teacher, I used to spend most of my hours in the holidays programming and lesson planning. There wasn't a lot of time-off, but an awful lot of preparation. But now the benefit of age kicks in, and I've got no planning or lesson creation ahead of me, and even better - no marking! I'm a free agent!

So today I got busy and went to Bunnings (a hardware store) in an effort to refurbish a planter. I had to re-paint the top of this guy in a black enamel, and he has cheap plastic legs which were faded brown, so I thought - I'm going to paint these too. I reckon it came up a treat! And then it was ontop putting in a new lining. I tried to find just the right plants to put in it, but no luck - even went to a second nursery and couldn't quite find what I'm after. Not that I know what this is, it's one of those 'I'll know it when I see it!'.

This planter is about a metre long, and I reckon it looks a million bucks! Yeah ok, the photo is shit. It's dark here now, and it's on the front deck - and then my phone did some night vision mode, and got grumpy at me demanding to be held still. Either way, you get the look.

Then it was on to the library. During term time I devour a lot of books - but they're typically all audiobooks given I do a 90 minute commute. But, today I put a physical book in my hands. In fact, I picked up three! And then I spent the afternoon drinking coffee, black tea with honey and a bottle of water, curled up with my new finds. I intend to spend many hours tomorrow lost in my story - it's a murder mystery, which I love, set in Victorian London - and the truth is, I'm also a sucker for this setting. The book has a bit of a Jack The Ripper meets Sherlock Holmes feel to it, although I'm only 50 pages in. Will let you know how it turns out, but there is a lot of interest in the characters being a little bit anachronistic for the period.

And - I even got out and about, went for a morning run and an afternoon walk. All in all, today was a good day. And the best part? I have another 9 days of this bliss (then the bliss is interrupted by a night away and 9 hours of driving!) We'll be off to Sydney for 'Phantom of the Opera', at The Opera House - I guess the setting is appropriate, and while that is Thursday night, I'm actually more intent on the Friday morning. We book hotels that offer buffet breakfasts - and let's face it, that's reason enough for me to have a night out!

Anyone else on bonus 'weekend' time?
