Powering up 4525 HIVE - Yep - I'm now a DOLPHIN, well and truly!

Powering up 4525 HIVE Yep I'm now a DOLPHIN, well and truly!.png

Over the last few days, I've felt that I've needed to shake things up and do something different. It's why I havn't posted in nearly a week, or comment, or curate. That feels like an age, especially since I'd been developing patterns of logging in every day - but, that had become one of my problems. I felt like I was giving away too much of my time to all my activities on the blockchain, and something had to give.

I had been contemplating cashing everything out and walking away from the blockchain entirely. The Australian dollar is down quite a lot right now, so it felt like it might be a decent time to do just that given HIVE's connection to the USD. I even started powering down my tokens and removing delegations to get ready for this to happen. But I had this niggling feeling that it wasn't quite the right answer either, so in the end, I decided to take a step back from Splinterlands. I was giving that game an awful lot of time and in truth depositing a fair chunk of cash into it every fortnight, along with HBD earnings.

I guess what I'm saying is, my goal of becoming a DOLPHIN was being put on the back-foot. Our mate @arcange publishes daily HIVE STATISTICS, which is where I got the following graphs from. You can check them out here: https://peakd.com/hive-133987/@arcange/hive-statistics-20221002-en - and, the truth was, I was getting close to that elusive 5525 HP, but my growth had slowed. I got to 3,000 pretty quickly, and then took my time moving from 3000 to 4,000. I actually moved beyond 4,000 last week - but I wasn't sure I'd reach my goal of hitting the DOLPHIN status in this calendar year.

image.png

Looking through Arcange's data then, it seems that there are 1048 accounts currently at DOLPHIN - and, I think I'd like to join their ranks. And today, despite not being a POWER UP DAY (sorry @traciyork, I guess I missed that one, since I've been away from the chain this last week). I decided to put a power up in place which would allow me to really cement myself in this space.

image.png

So with this power up in place, of 4525 HIVE, I reckon I can say I've well and truly earned my DOLPHIN status. The only question really is how long will it take to get that ORCA badge loaded?

image.png

Thanks for joining me for this celebration; I don't think I'll ever get to do quite such a big power up ever again - but it certainly was fun to push that button! It's always a big decision where to invest, and I'm glad to be investing in this space with you all. Ultimately, my decision to walk away from HIVE altogether came down to this: I actually rather value the friendships and communities I've come across over here. Thanks everyone!

I can relate with splinterlands taking a lot of money and time, but one thing I usually do is give that which I can afford. Congratulations, dolphin status is absolutely beautiful, well-done, wow, that's a huge chunk of power up there.

Morning Josediccus;
Yep - a good chunk of power, thanks to the splinterlands sell-off mostly. The problem wasn't about 'affording' to keep putting the money into the game, that was perhaps secondary to the time factor. But either way, glad to be a DOLPHIN. I guess I'd say, 'Race ya to ORCA', but I think your headstart puts you in a fantastic position ;)

Congrats on making the right move for you! I was inching up to about halfway to Dolphin a yaer ago before things changed for me but am now rebuilding to meet my goals. It must feel good for you to have that extra headroom. Keep building!

Morning evernoticethat; thanks for the encouragement. It seems that we often come up against hurdles, but it's the constant building perhaps which is the point. ;)

Morning eijffelbridge; yea, there was something about the pull of HIVE which I was finding difficult to walk away from. That said, I'm still glad to have found many extra hours in my week from pulling back from gaming.

Having time on your hands to do things you want, is essential for longterm happiness/productivity. And maybe u come back at it in some time and maybe not. However you look at it, it's a good decision that you chose for yourself.

Nice one! Glad you decided to stay. I am sure you will be glad you made the decision to stay once the market shifts and things hot up again, it always does...

Morning sapphirecrypto; yep, the market is an ever-changeable beast! But in the end, it is connections which made me more interested in sticking around, more than a couple of extra cents in the dollar for my hive stack ;)

It's the best of both worlds... the latter will however take a while ;)

I just don't know what the hell I will do with my funds if I cash out, since Hive is a working formula to earn passively I will keep building my stake to increase my passive earnings. If I have to look at investing offline, part of Hive's earnings will do that. That has always been my thinking.

I was wondering why you have been quiet, the past week, makes sense now lol. Glad you didn't walk away, it might pay off a lot more in the future.
Congrats on Dolphinhood, lets's swim together now!

Heya Joe;
Cheers for the congrats, already enjoying a swim ;)

You're probably right about investing offline; it's a minefield at the moment trying to pick a performer. All our stocks are down heavily recently, which is annoying, because they're all good businesses, with steady and reliable streams. Most of our stocks are REITS with social infrastructure assets; medical centres, private hospitals, childcare etc - but in a rising interest rate environment, they're taking a battering. Their lease agreements are in place for like 30 years, with price hikes built in - but they do seem oversold. Would I buy more today? Well, our Dividend Reinvestment Scheme buys us more every quarter, but perhaps it is a falling knife scenario at the moment. My favourite one fell from $5 to $3.30 in the last few months. We purchased it at $2.08 years ago, and the dividends have been huge on it, but it still feels annoying.

I've never been involved in stock which makes me a noob in that aspect, something I might have to try. It is a bit of digging trying to figure out a business that will be successful, I ventured into the Uber business a few years ago and my experience was terrible, I ended up losing the investment funds and the car repossessed, so I learned to be cautious next time.

Ah, well, that's what you call a bad experience.

I actually rather like stocks, we've just got good dividend payers in the REITS, and their portfolios have an average lease of 29 years for one, and 21 years the other. We also have shares in one of the biggest infrastructure mangers in the world. In all cases in those shares, which are our largest holdings, the dividend increases every year without fail, and their assets, or funds under management increase every year. The compounding of the dividend reinvestment schemes has made these a cash cow - and, we don't need to touch them until we retire (gosh, a 30 year timeframe) in which case, they'll be part of our self-funded pension plan. Time will tell, but market returns - over the last 100 years, is about 9%, sure there are ups and downs, but the trends are always up. We don't buy bullshit speculation, we just buy good businesses.

I dunno, would you call HIVE speculation? It could all go bust in a day, we've seen other coins go the same way. Or, it could go to the moon. I hope the latter for everyone involved.

I see you've got some options to diversify into off Hive which is good.

As for Hive you and I give it a value which is one aspect to look at it if it will be here for the long term or not. Provided people are wanting to interact with the chain for the rewards, Hive will always exist in my opinion.
Then another way I've looked at it is investors in the platform like the witnesses, building applications, which is more like starting off a business offline, will they pack up one day and leave? probably not. The only threat I see to Hive is an external attack, which the devs are consistently improving on our defense mechanism. So am hopeful of Hive and to tell you the truth if Hive fails am screwed.

Congratulations on being a dolphin. I understand Splinterlands taking up a lot of time and I keep thinking about using bot services to play for me instead. With my current rate of growth, I think I will be a dolphin in maybe half a year.

Time seems to fly; 6 months will be nothing.
Yeah, I contemplated using a splinterlands bot to play, or a rental service - but I kind of felt its not really 'playing the game'. I often seen splitnerlands as a game more than investment - without the game, what is it? I still think I'll follow the game and the cards and might get back in later on.

I agree that it isn't as fun but it's better than not managing it. I haven't had as much time lately

Hey, no worries @lordtimoty! One of the main ideas behind Power Up Day is to encourage people to power up, even if it's not on the first. 😊

And congratulations on hitting that awesome milestone - here's to hoping the next one isn't too far away. 🎉✨🥳🥂

Thanks Traci; appreciate any gif with a cheerleading whale!
And, I get that it's always good to power up any day, although it is nice to get a little bee badge as that bit of extra validation! ;)

Congrats on becoming a dolphin!!

I think if one is in a fortune position where we don't need to rely on Hive to support our daily life, building up the nest for the long run is the best way to go. For me, Hive is one big social experiment to see how far I can take things. Plus, as you say, there's the added benefit of friendship and Communities here that money can't buy.

Orca next!!!

Morning livinguktaiwn;

Yep, you're probably right about building up Hive for the long-term. You have to figure anything could boom or bust in the crypto space at any time, and it does seem our little coin has a heck of a lot of resilience.

That said, one of the things I love about HIVE is when people are significantly increasingly their quality of life, just by pulling out a couple of bucks. That life-changing narrative is so cool.

That would have been our loss 😢 Thank you for changing your mind!

Also congratulations on your new level 🙌 I'm truly happy for you 🐬🐬🐬
