No culpa.
- No estás sola.
English version
I'm 32 and I just figured out something that sounds dumb but actually changed everything. I don't have to save anyone to deserve existing.
The Invisible Weight

For years... honestly, most of my life... I carried backpacks that weren't mine. My light brown hair that I'm always absentmindedly tying back (I think it's how I contain all the mess inside), I walked around carrying things I never asked for. Other people's decisions. Guilt I inherited. Promises I made because it felt like I had to.
My white skin showed it all. Every sleepless night was visible. Every worry that wasn't mine was written on my face.
And the weird part? It wasn't sudden. I didn't wake up one day like "enough." It was more like... slowly realizing you've been holding your breath this whole time. And you didn't even notice.
When Science Explained What I Already Felt
I read something by Bessel van der Kolk like a year ago and almost had a moment. Because she talked about how our bodies remember everything. Everything. What our mind tries to forget, our body keeps in the tension of your shoulders, in that voice saying "it's not enough" every single day.
And I lived it. Didn't just read it. Lived it in my body.
Turns out responsibility you take on without asking generates real stuff in your brain. Hypervigilance (always waiting for something to go wrong). Chronic exhaustion (because you never actually rest). A blurry identity (because you stopped knowing what was yours and what wasn't).
But then... the part where I almost cried reading: we can change that. Neuroplasticity is real. We can rewrite it.
What Happened
It wasn't pretty. It wasn't linear. It was messy, honestly.
I started small because I couldn't start big:
- One day I recognized that "should" wasn't actually mine
- Another day I said out loud "that's not my responsibility" and literally shook
- Slowly I learned that boundaries don't make you selfish. They make you whole.
At 32, looking in the mirror with these hazel eyes, I finally saw someone who deserves care. Not guilt. Who deserves to be happy, not sacrificed. Who deserves to be here just because she exists.
Healing isn't a finish line. It's daily work. Actual daily work.
What I Learned
- Responsibility you didn't ask for is weight, but it's recognizable. You can feel it.
- Your body knows what isn't yours. You just have to listen.
- Liberation is something scientific AND spiritual at the same time. Both.
- You're not alone. For real. There's several of us here discovering that self-care isn't selfish.
For You Reading This
If you ever felt like a failure because you couldn't fix what someone else broke... this is for you.
If your worth depended on how much you did for others... this is for you.
If you needed someone else to tell you it was okay to set boundaries... well, I'm telling you it's okay.
The Catharsis community exists because we know that when you say the hurt out loud, it actually hurts less. Because honest stories set us free.
My light brown hair now I just leave it down. My white skin actually breathes. My eyes see clearer.
And so can you.
What was your moment? What did you finally let go of? Tell me. This space fits all our stories.
Catharsis is our safe space. Here, truth is medicine.
