Drawing Betsy the butterfly from Pinky and Spiky webcomics

This is Betsy the butterfly one of the quirky characters in Pinky and Spiky webcomics. I want to make my version of all the characters in the said webcomics. I already had made Pinky and Spiky using the style that I use for my own original character if you remember this cutie

this is my reference in making most of my characters lately
Here I will show you how I made my cute butterfly.
Who is she? Betsy is the spoiled tiny and the newest member of the Pinky and Spiky gang. Her arch nemesis is Victor the spider who happens to live in the same household. Betsy is cute, charming and witty and could be a handful sometimes that is how I remember her going back to the previous comics that I had been seeing here

To start the concept going. I made a rough sketch making sure all the important details of Betsy are in place like the cute flappy wings with a red dot those antennae that is basically it. I made sure I got the shape of her face and body and eyes right so the style is consistent with the the rest. Here I drew a bean shape horizontal wise for the face and used the same shape for her body. The rest is kind of intuitive like the antennae made them short and bulbous to keep that squishy look plus that thick collar and limbs.

I erased all the rough lines when I am settled with the final shape and look of Betsy. Here I am deciding whether to give her visible fingers or should they be hidden under her shirt.

This is the finished line drawing you see I added her cute fingers otherwise her upper limbs would look short and incomplete. The fingers elongates her arms in the right way. From here it looks like she is wearing a body suit.

Deciding on her colors. The reference image of Betsy from the webcomics is pure yellow and those red dots on her wings and that works fine because she is too small. Now that I made a marshmallow like Betsy that pure yellow may not work. So I am thinking the color palette of butter yellow as you can see on the image above. I got all the yellows and beiges and browns.
What do you think guys? What if I use a different color for her suit or shirt or boots like blue or any color other than yellow? Let me know in the comments.
Pinky and Spiky done too maybe I should try making Victor the Spider, Cornelius the cardinal bird and Dietrich the mouse next.

I love your post especially knowing about your thought process in making an original character from a reference. Betsy looks slick like butter
Betsy is just floating by chilling I love that vibe
