I PLANTED ANOTHER SET OF CROPS IN MY LITTLE GARDEN
Happy Saturday, happy weekend everyone. I hope you are doing great.
How's the weather and farming going at your end? Here, we are seeing more of the rains and farmers have been busy cultivating and planting.
And I am not left out in the planting too. It's imperative that everyone plant some crops especially for personal consumption.
As I wrote in my previous post that I will be sharing update of planting in my little garden, so I'm here again. It rained yesterday evening so today was a good day to go planting.
So the crops planted are vegetables; pumpkin (ugu in my dialect) and fluted pumpkin (ugboru) plus some waterleaf sticks that I got.
This year, I'm not in a hurry to plant all crops at the same time, it will be one or two crop per week after the other, I don't know if it's a good idea but I need to try it out and see how it goes.
I had already planted waterleaf few weeks ago and they are doing well, The previous Saturday, I planted maize, and all the seeds have germinated. I'm happy because I won't have to replant it.
Although I'm happy that all of the maize seeds germinated, something unusual happened that made me sad earlier. I don't know what it was that cut the añara seed I kept for budding that had already germinated. Añara is also a type of vegetable, the leaf can be chewed raw or used for cooking soup.
Well, it's already done and there's nothing else to do. I will have to make do with the few ones left.
Another seeds that germinated were spinach. I planted it the previous year, it died off due to the dry season, some of the seeds that scattered around are now germinating so that one is settled.
This pepper here is giving me joy. During the dry season, it almost died. I continued watering it till the rains came. As you can see it has started flowering.
Enough of the stories, let's get to work.
The first crop I planted was pumpkin (ugu) I have a separate portion for it because I don't want to have it clustering everywhere or dragging space with the fluted pumpkin. Those two veggies can drag space eh 😂.
After planting the ugu, next was the fluted pumpkin and their own space is between the ridges where the maize were planted.
That done it was time for the waterleaf, which equally has separate space. Yes, everyone to your tent.
I noticed that small small weeds were sprouting up around the farm so I weeded them too.
And oh, before I forget, take a look at the harvest from the previous year's pumpkin that I planted, pumpkin head. We call it ike ugu in my dialect.
So I cut it open and removed the seeds for drying before planting. I was surprised that despite the small size, it has 20 seeds, isn't that wonderful.
The last thing, I plucked pawpaw too.
See how ripe and fresh it is. There are two paw paw trees in my garden.
This one will be used with other fruits as for fruit salad for dinner.
As I write again with updates of my little garden, stay safe and enjoy the planting season.
Thank you

Good work in your garden for this weekend. The seedlings look very good with the watering. I know that fruits that you have scooped out the seeds but don't actually know their name. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, water is life not only to humans but plants too.
In my dialect, Igbo precisely we call it, the head "ike ugu" and the seed "mkpụrụ ugu"
Thanks for engaging my post. Have a great day.
