Have you realized that our best memories are always memories of us with our friends and loved ones ?, they are always those fun moments with family and friends. They can be moments we hanged out together, moments we went on a journey together or even those moments we went through tough times and overcame together.
Browsing through my picture gallery, I saw a few pictures I took with friends some weeks ago and it made me smile as I remembered the fun time we had together.

That day, we had set-out to find a place to hang out and take some pictures too. We are students and we live around the university campus. The university is really a big one and is located in Enugu state in eastern Nigeria. My friend and I do not originally stay here in Enugu and we are also not from here. we came from a faraway state to study in this university. The university is renowned. It has a lot of beautiful historic sites and artworks. I love art and culture and had always wished to explore the arts of the people of the region so we decided to visit the "department of fine and applied arts " as it has a lot of beautiful ancient sculptures and artworks plus it was a perfect place for the photoshoot.

We all went there together. Tracing the department of fine and applied arts wasn't so hard, from afar we could see the name of the department boldly written on one of the buildings and some sculptures decorating the premises.

At the department, like expected there are a lot of sculptures and artworks. The sculptures were significant and most of them portrayed the ancient ways and lifestyle of the people.
We went around the department and saw all the artworks. I also learnt a few things. Let me show you a few of the artworks we saw and I will tell you some things I have learnt about them.
This is the sculpture of a palm-wine tapper and it portrays the lifestyle and occupation of the ancient men of the region. The region is blessed with a lot of palm trees and men on the region tapped these palms and sold the wine to earn a living. You can see the gourd in his hands, it's used for carrying the palm-wine and the rope on his other hand used for climbing the palm tree. You can see how they dressed before civilization.

This is the sculpture of a woman in the ancient day atire of wrapper, head-tie, bangle ,beaded necklaces etc

This sculpture portrays the ancient warrior and their weapon of war ( the arrow ).
Back then, there were no such things as guns or missiles, soldiers used crude weapons like arrow, Cutlass, stones for fighting.

Here is another sculpture. This portrays men in battle. One of the sports they did that time was wrestling. They did these wrestlings during festivals for fun and also to find out who the strongest man in the town is .

We also saw another symbolic and significant sculpture. The sculpture of a man playing a flute. In this region the flute is called "Oja". It's a very important music instrument and it is perculier to the people of the region. it is played for personal entertainment and also to praise people especially the king. In the ancient times, the king of the land always has a special Oja player and the Oja is played to entertain him, elate him and also to announce his arrival.

We saw many other sculptures. We also took some pictures with some of of them. You can see them here.

This was my favorite sculpture, I like it because it really looks real. I am a bit scared whenever I'm standing close to it. I tend to imagine a lot of things in my head, like "what this angry looking sculpture just comes to life and grabs me ?. Because of these thoughts, I had to stand far while taking pictures with it.

We really had a nice time and we learnt so much together.
We have been away from each other for months now and I miss them so much but thank God for these pictures, atleast when I see them, I remember these beautiful moments and I smile.

Hahaha it is true that the one you say is real looks very real. Better to stay a bit far away.

This looks like a great day out with your friends. They always bring joy to our lives. I'm glad that you were able to meet and that you had fun on this walk with so many sculptures.

Thanks for sharing your day with Daily Blog ❤️!
