This is farouk, a young lad that stays in my neighborhood. Farouk is about 7 years old . Farouk and his elder brother Buhari who is about 10 years old go about collecting homeless cats and giving them shelter in their home.

Weeks back, I met Farouk crying as he embraced tightly one of the cats they took care of. when I asked him why he was crying, he explained that his elder brother Buhari wanted to give away the cat for money. He said he didn't want he brother to give away that particular cat as it was his best of all the cats they owned . he said it wasn't just a friend but also like family. Farouk was unwilling to let go of the cat despite how they tried to convince him. He said he wouldn't let anyone take his cat away from him.

That day, they had brought two of their cats outside, maybe it was time to give them to their new owners. I had always found what they do interesting so I decided to ask them a few questions about it. I asked them how and why exactly they go about looking for homeless cats to shelter. They were stiIl children and I wanted to know what prompted such humane and unusual act.

These kids were a bit shy, they tried to evade my questions but I was curious and keen on getting an answer so they had to give me an answer.

They told me how they love animals, especially cats. Acording to them, the first and major reason why they began taking these cats away from the streets was because of the love they had for them and because they wanted them just as pets. At first they took only cats within our neighborhood. They fed them and kept them as pets. After a while the cats would give birth to several cute kittens. These kittens were really adorable and people in the neighborhood as well as passers-by and people from other neighborhood who saw these kittens would give them some money and asks them for a kitten.

According to him, it continued that way, people always came for the kittens, they were always ready to pay for them and this generated little income for him.

The money soon got into their head and because he needed to always have kittens he could give out for money, he began scouting for homeless cats that he would take in, so that was how he started moving about in search of homeless cats.

Farouk and Buhari now have a lot of cats. And they keep them in different locations. They are really proud of themselves, they couldn't stop telling me about the different colour cats they now have and how stubborn some of these cats can be sometimes.

I was amazed at how they could easily take these cats in, I wanted to know how they made the cats become comfortable with them and even agree to follow them.

I was awed by their wisdom. Although they didn't do anything spectacular, it just seems spectacular because of the fact that they're kids.

They told me how they feed the cats regularly till the cats began to see them as their master and became very comfortable with them, and that's how they take these cats home and they become the owners.

The cats do not stay so long with them as they had limited resources to cater for all of them and other cat lovers who had more resources always came to pay for them.

Farouk the younger one was always comfortable with how things went, he always had several other cats to play with. He was never very attached to anyone in particular. He never bothered about which cat was taken until that day when I saw him cry for the cat.

All the cats they had were cute, other than the colours of their skin and gender, I really didn't see the difference between the cats.

Before I left I tried to console him. Although it seemed like it would be futile, I still appealed to his elder brother not to let anyone take the cat from Farouk. I heard the person coming for that cat was willing to give good money for it and Farouk was going to enjoy so much from the proceeds. Farouk didn't care still. The love was just so strong.

He really didn't care about the number of toys he could purchase with the money he would be given. He didn't care for all that.
I was really fascinated by the depth of love he had for this cat. Kids would give anything for toys but not this one. His cat was more than a pet.

I really don't know what happened later, whether Farouk was allowed to keep this cat he had fallen in love with or his brother sold the cat for money he fell in love with.

So my question. How much do you love your pet, how much would you be willing to trade it for, or are you like Farouk who wouldn't bulge for any amount.

I'd like to hear from you. do well to leave your answer in the comment section.

Thanks for reading. I hope you found this interesting.>

Oh Farouk must be kind. Not all kids have the same heart for pets. This is such an inspiration to other kids and even adults.
