Good day lovely hivers and homesteaders. I hope you all are doing well.

You all can recall that I said that my family are homesteaders, it is absolutely true and infact these days fishponds here belongs to my aunt and it's kept at the back of our house. We started this pond two years ago and it has really been quite a fruitful venture. For the fish pond, we use mostly rubber tanks although we still have a few ponds constructed with concrete

Although at the beginning, we made a lot of loses due to the fact that we were very much inexperienced. A lot of fish died from infection, some died because we put so much fish in a bond , some died because we failed to feed the fish on time and the fishes ended up eating themselves, some died because we also failed to change the water in the fish pond and some also died from predators like kites, Hawks etc that came and swooped up the fish.

We suffered so much loss because we didn't know so much about fish farming but all that is now a thing of the past as we have put in place adequate measures to prevent and reduce such losses.

We no longer have losses due to birds swooping up little fishes. As you can see, each pond is covered with nets to prevent that from happening.

Before now we only had a few tanks where we put the fishes and these tanks were always overcrowded by the fishes. This made the fish to easily get infected or sometimes they would even fight, kill each other and eat themselves. After we noticed this, we had to buy more tanks and made sure that there was no such thing as overcrowding in a tank. These really helped to reduce loses and increase productivity.

We have also dealt with issues of death due to feeding. The fishes have to be fed atleast twice a day and we make sure to do that. We learnt our lesson the hard way and we never forget to feed them. Feeding these fishes have been a major challenge for us because the feeds are really expensive and these fishes consume a lot of feeds. We plan on manufacturing our own feed so we can cut down on the cost of buying feeds, for now we just have to feed them with what we have and at the right time too.

Another thing we now do to prevent losses of the fish is changing the water in the pond. This is a bit stressful as we have to do it everyday. I really don't know why the water gets very dirty, nevertheless we just have to do what we have to do. If the water is not changed the fish get infections and begin to die or it will be difficult for oxygen to penetrate the water and the fish would die due to suffocation.
It's really a beautiful site to behold if the water is changed

There are still a few other things we do to prevent deaths of our fish and I will share them with you next time. We now hardly have cases of fish death and we have made quite a substantial amount from the sales of this fish. We also have fish to eat whenever we want and it has really helped our family's economy.

Thanks to the Homesteading livestyle, The we harsh effects of the dwindling National economy is not very much felt by us. Homesteading is indeed a beautiful livestyle, you can start homesteading and I assure you that you won't regret it.

Wow... This is very lovely, thank God you've gained enough experience on how to go about fish Farming so you won't be on the loosing side.

And about their feeding, I agree with you on manufacturing your own food so as to cut down cost.

Thanks for sharing this, I hope you still grow bigger than this.
