Who am I?

Hello! I'm @luizeba, also known in the real world as Luiz Soares. I'm 27 years old Economist from Brazil and, for the last few years, I'm getting my second Bachelor's Degree, this time in Law, at the Fluminense Federal University.

If you want to know more about myself, please see my Introduction Post to Hive!

What am I doing?

I'm a Senior (last year of my Law undergraduate program) and I'm currently writing my Undergraduate Thesis.

The theme of my Thesis is Digital Properties and if (and how) their Ownership is protected by Brazilian Laws.

To be more specific, I'm focusing on two main topics: Social Media and Online Games.

To be EVEN more specific, I'm writing about:

  1. How people embraced the digital economy (specially after the COVID-19 Lockdown) and started earning their living by working online, be it through social media platforms (using Facebook/Instagram as a marketing platform for their offline services/products or directly selling online services like Coaching, Translation, Coding, Design, etc.) or through online games (by "grinding" and "farming" digital goods and, then, selling them to another players); and

  2. How this livelihood is constantly in danger because (according to the Terms of Services of the majority of both Social Media / Online Games) the monetization of those things are forbidden or, at least, not officialy recognized by those platforms.

For example:

  • Facebook doesn't allow the selling of administration rights for Groups and Pages, making it difficult or outright impossible to someone to liquidate their business and exercise their freedom to conduct businesses;

  • Facebook doesn't allow the selling of "unofficial" ad space in Groups and Pages (like selling the Cover Photo or your Profile Photo space for a monthly rate);

  • Online Games, with a few rare exceptions, forbid "Real Money Trading", which means the selling of in-game assets for real-money world;

Web3 and Blockchain

While the main focus of the Thesis is about mainstream social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, TikTok) and traditional online games (World of Warcraft, Runescape, Final Fantasy XIV, EVE Online, etc.), I will be featuring that, in both cases, those ownership problems are already solved on the Web 3.0, given the decentralized blockchain and the whole ecosystem that is being built around it, including:

  • Social Media Platforms (@PeakD, @Ecency, @ThreeSpeak, @DBuzz, @LeoFinance and many other tribes like Splintertalk, POB and 1UP), in which you actually "own your space" in the platform (ownership of Hive Tokens and/or Tribe Tokens) and, thus, can't be censored, banned or suspended; also, the community, as a whole (through Witnesses), can decide how things will work.

  • Online Games (@Splinterlands, @RisingStarGame, @CryptoBrewmaster, @dCrops, @dCityGame), in which all the in-game assets (cards, items, skins, currencies) are all on the blockchain and, thus, are freely tradeable both in-game or using third-party markets (@PeakMonsters, @MonsterMarket);

  • Decentralized Finance / Exchanges (@LeoDex, TribalDex, Hive-Engine); allowing the users to trade between Hive assets and also exchange Hive assets into non-Hive assets (Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, fiat money).

How Can You Help Me

Have you ever had problems with Web2, "traditional" Social Media or Online Games?

Please, share what happened with me!

Examples:

  • Wrongful punishments (banishment, suspension, etc.);

  • Loss of assets (deletion of pages and groups, suspension or gaming account and loss of all in-game properties and characters); if possible, please share how much you've lost (market value, how much you spent to build those assets, how many hours you had to work, etc.)

  • Loss of income (Was this online venture just a hobby, or was it your main income? What changed in your life after the problem?)

  • Lack of support when the problem occured;

I'll share here something that happened with me. A few years ago, I created a Group on Facebook to share information about pet rabbits, as I had recently adopted one and felt in love for these cute fluffy boys. The group grew over time and reached more than 15 thousand members, with hundreds of new post per day.
One day, my group had been suspended due "hate speech and violent content". I was travelling for a few days (and away from the computer), and some new members started sharing horrible content in the group (like public executions and hangings) and I just didn't had the time to remove the posts and ban the users.
I appealed and said that it was just a group about rabbits where we talked about adoption and share cute photos, but the case was closed after a few days without a real human actually reviewing the appeal.
Thus, I lost my bunny group forever 🐰

If you're OK with sharing these informations with the whole Hive community, you can comment directly on this post.

If you don't want other people finding out about your private stuff, feel free to contact me on Discord (luizeba#5530).

In either case, I WILL NOT ever put names or any kind of identifying information in my Thesis. I just want to hear about real problems that real people already in the past with the traditional, Web2 internet, so I can write about them in detail.

Tagging

There are some prominent Hiveans that are constantly trying to raise awareness about the Hive Blockchain and supporting initiatives that are actively trying to bring more people to the Hive. As such, they probably have way more stuff to tell about the advantages of the Web3, blockchain-based internet in comparison to the traditional, centralized networks.

I'll excuse myself for doing this tagging (as I hate to tag people without their consent); but I hope you guys can bring interesting information and help both me and the whole Hive community understand how the Web3 and the Blockchain can make society better than it's today: @theycallmedan @acidyo @threespeak @hiro-hive @arcange @diggndeeper.com @neoxian

Good thesis for your start. But if you discuss that don't forget gamification and NFTs. Here are excellent articles about that. Take a look at @romanrackwitz blog.
