The Best Websites for your D&D 5e Campaign: The Alexandrian & 5eTools

Hello everyone!

Finding realiable tools to organize your D&D campaign is difficult nowadays, especially when the websites you find are either all locked behind paywalls and subscriptions, or they're all wiki-like sites where the information is absolutely unreliable and full of bullshit from (unbalanced, weird-ass) Homebrew supplements.

After spending more time that I would like to admit browsing the interwebs, I found two INCREDIBLE websites that'll actually help you on your D&D campaign, instead of making you even more confused about what's going on with your character and with the adventure.

The Alexandrian

www.TheAlexandrian.net is a personal repository of Justin Alexander, a professional writer that's been creating RPG content for the last 2 decades or so.

He has several "REMIXES" of official D&D campaigns, in which he explains the plots in a way better manner than the official Wizard of the Coasts books. He explains and fixes several plot holes, summarizes the "info dumps", clearly showing what players and the DM should know and shouldn't know about the campaign world.

As a player (and not a DM), I'm just reading the chapters that we've already been through on the game, so I can recap what has already went on without having to bother my Dungeon Master at all. Also, as Alexander is a professional writer, he sometimes can explain stuff way better than my poor DM.

For example, we're running a Descent into Avernus campaign, and here is the Avernus Remix. It's just incredible.

5e.Tools

www.5e.tools is a 100% free compilation of EVERYTHING that's already been published for D&D 5th edition. It's a public project that you can even contribute via GitHub.

The website has just the best, most complete tools for 5e, including all the information about races, classes, feats, backgrounds, items, spells, bestiaries, loot generators, and even references for all official campaigns (eg maps, monster stat blocks, item descriptions, etc.)

What I loved the most about 5e.tools is that you can easily filter stuff according to almost any imaginable filter: core books only, official adventures books, some highly-praised homebrews, etc. You an be sure that you'll never run into something weird.

Thanks for reading this post, and until next time!

5e.tools is honestly fantastic. It's one of the tools that is just so good that I sometimes wonder how WotC lets it continue to exist.

...which reminds me that I really should clone the GIT for this.

5eTools hasn't been killed yet because it's a github repository; it wouldn't matter at all, because everyone else and their mother's could host a new one instantly.

It would just bring attention to the fact that there IS a free tool that's way better than the official ones, because it being removed would make to the news, people would talk about it on reddit, etc...
