CHAR KUEH TIAW - at 59th Street

CHAR KUEH TIAW

Flat rice noodles stir fried in a woke. One of the best local delights in Sarawak. It is Saturday again. Have you had your breakfast? I love to eat and today I am going to introduce to you to

59th Street.

Not a street but the name of a cafe. This cafe is quite popular among locals here in Miri.

Miri has been having water disruptions for the pass couple of days due to pipe leakage and repairs are on their way till this Sunday. Luckily, I've been able to use rain water collected from my water tank.

A must try if you ever come to Miri city for a short trip or even for a vacation.

DUMPLINGS

These are delicious dumplings. Healthy and pretty simple.

The lights before the sun goes down.

The way how light shines through glass during sunset as everyone starts to calm down and night comes.

THE MENU

So many local delights to choose from. I would recommend you to try out KOLOK Mee, one of the local favourites.

The sun was setting

The cafe wasn't really crowded as it would normally be if it's at night or in the morning. Which is great. It feels more relaxed.

A happy man enjoying his meal. There are lots of sitting around so no worrying about spaces to sit.

My wife taking pictures while we wait for our food to arrive.

SOUP DUMPLING

img_20220608_181414

Soup, wanton and minced meat all in one. Very simple yet delicious dish. If you want a light meal but still won't go hungry, this is the meal for you.

The inside and what it looks like

How many dumplings inside of this bowl? Perhaps 8. I guess that's good for just a quick meal.

A hot cup of coffee

img_20220608_181518

The one thing that I must have every single time is a hot cup of sugarless coffee. Fresh brewed from their kitchen.

This is one of the must tries if you ever visit Sarawak or other parts of Malaysia. Have some chilli sauce to increase the savory flavour of this dish.

There are a lot of other choices here. There are many stalls here.

Char Kuey Teow looks dry enough to separate the flat rice noodle. At the same time, they look maintain enough moisture to not feels like biting paper.

Dumpling had enough filling. Unlike here in KL, the wrapper is so huge, but theres only pinky portion of minced meat in the filling.

The picture right after Janice, pointing outwards, I can see the building across has a signboard if 五福樓, am guessing that's a dim sum shop. If I even visit, I guess the drill will be fried noodle + dumpling and proceed to walk across and explore 🤣

Hi hi.. David.. nice to see you here.. Wah dumpling with pinky portions... maybe high cost of rental. I know in KL the rental is sky high. In Miri, there is still rental that is only a couple of hundred for a stall.

What is the most delicious food in KL that you would recommend?

Wow.. You are the true king when it comes to food. For me, I don't think I can proceed on with another place. hahaha.. =) Maybe after a couple of hours.
