Chinese New Year eve

Hi hi.. everyone, it's a beautiful Sunday morning. Last night, I went to the Chinese temple to get some praying done. Today is the first day of the Chinese lunar new year and it is the year of the rabbit. A lot of people are getting the rabbit as a pet this year to celebrate the new lunar new year. I went to the oldest temple in Miri. This temple dates back more than a century. It's amazing how a temple that old is still here today.

TUA PEH KONG TEMPLE, Miri, Sarawak

The first thing you'll notice

Lots and lots of red lanterns. These have names. You can buy a spot for a year and get blessed for a year.

Lots of lanterns hang

A number of people visited this temple. At 12 midnight, it was going to be more packed. We were there a couple of hours earlier.

The huge joss sticks. Those are expensive. A couple of hundred to get one burnt.

Deities

I saw a white lady here with her son. I guess she was excited for the year of the rabbit too and some blessings. You can make your wishes. Usually, I take my time and kneel down and make my wishes.

The temple

The floors are marble. Someone has donated a lot to renovate the temple. The new section of the temple is still under construction. It's great to see this place being maintained. This is part of what makes Miri unique. This building has seen Japanese soldiers and outlived a lot of people.

Can you see the lanterns

Lots and lots of lanterns hang on the ceiling of the temple. Dragons on the roof to guard the temple from any evil spirits.

Joss sticks

These are special joss sticks that are only available during special occasions like the Chinese New Year and other important dates.

That's some huge joss stick

That guy carries two huge joss sticks.

Lots and lots of lanterns hang.

During the Chinese New Year which last two weeks , you'll see lots of lanterns everywhere.

The new incomplete section of the temple

I am pretty excited as to what this part of the temple would look like once it is completed. The latest tourist attraction.

The red lanterns.

Lots and lots of lanterns on the ceiling of the temple. Wow, it's amazing to see so many beautiful lanterns that are hung on the ceiling here. When you stand here beneath the lanterns, you'll turn red.

Dragons that wrap around the poles

The poles where the dragons wrap.

The temple's gate

This is going to be the main entrance in the future. It hasn't been completed yet, so at the moment it is still closed.

Lots of people praying. I guess, everyone here wishing for good luck, wealth and health.

Hope that you enjoy reading this post.

This is what the Chinese New Year eve looks like at the temple. A lot of businesses are closed at the moment for holiday. The holiday usually last close to a week. Hope that your going to have a great day ahead.
