I went to one of the biggest bookstores in Penang
Where is this large bookstore? What does it look like? Well, read on to read more about it. A couple of hours before this, I was in Hatyai, Thailand.
Penang
The last time I came to Penang was about half a decade earlier. Still looks the same but this time, Penang after the pandemic. Things have slowly returned to some normalcy. People still wear mask around most of the time especially indoors. I guess, it is slightly challenging to not wear a mask after wearing it for more than two years.
After our dinner at Red Garden, it was time for us to explore this mall. This is the Gurney Paragon mall located in the heart of the city. At this point of time, it was still Chinese New Year.
This was what their decor looks like.
So what does this mall look like?
Lengthy concourses. Fully airconned. There weren't a lot of shoppers here. The building has lots of floors up.
The ground floor was with lots of different vendors.
The Chinese New Year vibe
Malaysian malls are known for one thing and that is definitely the decoration for the different occasions and festivities. This year, there were long ribbons hanging from the top of the ceiling.
Finally, I reached
BOOKXCESS
I've been only seeing this on the internet but have yet to visit this particular bookxcess.
This is one of the best places to buy books. Usually, they have new books that sell for an affordable price. However, that being said, there aren't any new books here.
I was here for an hour. Browsing through their huge number of books. I was pretty excited. There are so many books here. I did not buy any sadly. I just had a lot of trouble choosing a book I wanted to read.
There are chairs here to sit down and do some reading. Nothing beats sitting down and focusing on the pages of a book. Flipping through the pages of a book.
Most Malaysian readers prefer reading books from international authors so you'll find lots and lots of English books here.
There is also a second floor.
If I had a lot of time, I would have spent a lot more time here just looking at the different books. Perhaps buy one. Just being here is a thrilling experience itself.
The bookworm's heaven
I am a geek inside. I get excited at looking at stationary, at books. I guess, this all came from my mom. She got me books early on when I was still a child.
There is a huge selection of English books here. However, most of them are slightly dated but there are hidden gems here.
A couple of thousands of book to choose from. Simply amazing. Spoilt with choices.
This bookstore isn't a bookstore at all, it is a masterpiece by itself. If I had a chance in the future to have a house, I would have a bookstore that was this tall. Wow. That is just amazing to look at. It's unreal.
My wife on the second floor.
In comparison to the whole bookshelf. A monolith of a bookshelf.
Some fantasy books
These are the hardest to write. The whole world building. Characters in the story. Some of the toughest writing. You'll need to tune up your brain to a whole new level.
My favourite section of any bookstore
The thriller mystery section.
This is the tour of BookXcess. If you do visit Malaysia someday, do visit a bookxcess outlet. Sadly, Sarawak doesn't have any bookxcess outlet yet.
I hope that you enjoyed reading this.
