My one year of experience as a landlord

Good Morning.. How are all of you? How has your weekend been?

Is everything great? I bought a house around October 2024 and finally got my keys in around February 2025. This house is not a new house, so I spent around close to half a year fixing everything, like painting the walls and finding the cheapest ways to renovate the interior. I removed, using my own car, the leftover stuff that I felt looked outdated.

This half year has been great, as I've fixed most problems around the house, as well as having great tenants who are cooperative.

The last thing I fixed here around two weeks ago was the roof at the back of the house, which was constantly leaking when it rained.

One of the things that I bought in one of the main public areas of the house that I have bought is the fridge. At the moment, there are three tenants. A couple and a young lady.

This is the kitchen area. I changed the exhaust fan to a newer one. This house has piped gas that directly goes to the house, and it is quite affordable. I got someone to fix a grill here to increase the security. I painted the walls here by myself to save cost.

The bathroom. Some of the tiles came off and I had to ask someone to replace most of it.

This is one of the rooms that was rented by one lady who no longer rents here. She somewhat urinated on the floorboards, so I placed some charcoal and lots of disinfectant to remove the urine smell. I did not understand why she did such a thing.

She even had some faeces stains on the curtain, and the air conditioning system got destroyed. I was not sure what she did in the room. I think she smoked with the air conditioning system on. So, before she left, I had to recover some of the damage from the deposit of the room. It took me a lot of time to remove the urine smell from the room.

Another room. This is smaller but the air conditioning system works perfectly.

The living room area. The table was from the original owner, whom I bought this house from. The fan still looks good. A great way to have a natural way of circulating the air in the house.

This whole area used to be a really bad-looking garden. Many of the manhole covers were gone. I bought two to replace them and asked a contractor to cement the whole area. So, now at least it looks more pleasant.

Recently, I changed the main faucet to include a shower so the tenants staying here can easily shower. The first floor shower system is quite alright, but the second floor one is one where they had to keep the water in a bucket and later use a pail to shower. So, at the moment, I installed this.

Last year, when I just got this house, this whole toilet wall had lots of stickers, and it was not this clean. It took me one whole afternoon to slowly peel off a lot of the sticker residue.

Thank you very much for reading my post. I think getting a house is a good buy. One of the things I like is that I could have extra money per month to spend on areas where I could have impulsively spent on unnecessary wants, but now I have to make sure that I pay for the house first before I pay for other stuff.
